I had both Epson and HP printers, the epson always had shitty software that gave problems and it barely works on linux (not the scanner tho). The HP is a bit better but thats all.

Dell printers, well we have one of the big laser ones at the office and I spent an entire day trying to get it to print something. The damn thing would only print from the preview app on a mac, what the hell kind of bug is that?

I been hearing good things about Canon but never had one, any opinions on that?

Depends on what you need to print. I have a cheap Brother laser printer and love it, but thats black and white.

    Get a brother laser.

Network printer or wireless and prints from a myriad of devices.

Easy to refill, as it only uses a cog instead of a chip. The cog can be reset.

My color laser uses >1 watt on standby.

I did a long long search for a good, easy to refill laser.

    Hl-3075CW

There are newer ones now, but I have not researched them.

    $250-279

Epson, Brother and Canon are the brands I would choose if I was to buy a new printer.
Forget HP, all the HP kit I have owned/experienced has been junk.
    Lexmark is worse than HP.
