Its cultural differences. These companies are trying to get the casual gamer to buy these japanese games (dont say jpn or jap, jap is also racist). So the companies have to use artwork that is appealing to the general american public. The american box art of bubble bobble revolution (reminds of DDR because it looks like they're dancing and taht DDR is popular in the US too), has more proportionate body on the characters and they are fatter because the average american is fucking obese according to some foreign country or over-controlled survery done by some vegan group. If they used the japanese artwork the company would hear hell from conservative groups because of that green thing that resembles a kid because of the way they drew them has its mouth open trying to put a big ball into its mouth. That's sexual-inuendo. Now that doesn't bode well with parents who shield their already weak children from reality.. Keep in mind, there are more "casual-gamers" and kids and people in general than just you. Just because you don't like the box art doesn't mean it the whole world has to. Just ignore it. Is it me, or does the american art seem hypnotic. The blue dragon is like looking at me wierd like it wants me to join both of them, they seem to be having fun with them bubbles.
not to be a (insert fitting word here).. but I posted that image here like 3 month ago in some thread about bad box art..
This is not anywhere near as silly looking as the "white guy punching something" stuff from the late 80s/early 90s. Sheesh.
Sorry but how the hell is JPN racist, i use jpn because its an accepted abbreviation (apart from with you) however i dont use JAP as its racist. Nice little rant you have going on there, be careful on that soap box you might fall off.
Um I clearly said that jap is racist. The JPN part was simply for elitist reasons because if you like japan so much, but not japanese, then take the extra seconds in typing out japanese. But if you took that post seriously as a rant, then I'll just laugh that you did. Its not like me to seriously rant over cultural differences, which is pointless imo. That was merely satire if any of you can pick up on some of it, but again I'm a wierd guy and wierd things make me laugh.
Probably Central America in the '80s, yeah. Secret wars make the coolest video games. I'm gonna go play Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Nun Rape now. ...word is bondage...
On the US box Bub and Bob look absolutely retarded. Did the box designer just pull those designs out of his/her ass or what? I like the Japanese box though, they're drawn right on there and actually look like their videogame equivalents. Oh, another thing I noticed. Why does the US box say "Atari" while the Japanese one says the proper "Taito" brand name. Did Taito stop distributing in the US and now have Atari distribute their games for them?
I wouldn't say clearly. Sounds like you think both are. I actually thought that thread died off. Not only that, this one is particularly harsh, I thought it deserved it's own thread.
to me, the character(s) in the japanese version, look charming, while the european version just reminds me of obese videogame characters, who are developmently challanged *yuck* Ryan
You know what really terrifies me about current box art? The growing 'gigantic fucking hand stabbing out at you from the cover' trend that seems to be infecting recent DS releases. However, the games suffering from this symptom have all turned out to be really, really good, so maybe the hand is some sort of new Nintendo Seal Of Quality or something. I mean, seriously! This is just downright bizarre!
Lmao, I completely forgot about that game. Glover had to be the weirdest video game character ever. AUGGGH!! ITS A GIANT GLOVE AND ITS COMING TO GET YOU!!
