Just watching Swordfish and it's a good movie but this hacking crap is so rediculous.

We have a man here with 6 screen in front of him with a 3D interface of some operating system that does not exist making trojans in something taken right out of 3D-max or some other redering program talking all IT language.

I wish they'd cut out that crap and make it a bit more relistic like they actually did in the matrix reloaded where trinity actually hacked a system in a way that is actually like in real life.

I just hate crap like the movie hackers with futuristic crap just to make it look fun and cool.

I mean have you ever actually ever seen annyone use windows on a pc ? it's always futuristic crap running.

Sorry for the rant but i'd just like to know if i'm the only person annoyed to hell with the way hollywood makes hacking/cracking and working with computers in general.

  2. Hollywood OS comes preloaded with GUI hacking tools. How else would you hack the Gibson?

I know what you mean SilverBolt. When someone hacks something in a movie it's always some crap that is completely unreal. Have you ever seen the movie Enemy Of The State with Will Smith and Gene Hackman? That has some really stupid hacking crap on it. One guy downloads a video to a PC Engine GT cart !!!! What a load of shite.

Yes i remember it, it was actually a pcmcia card (which still doesn't make any sence it should have been the memory card from a digital camera) which they stuck into a pc engine gt but didn't work (no duhhhhh ).

But still it was a great movie but the entire computer crap was pure shite.

When the guy is invading the system with one of those R-Zone minigames on his head. :smt042 :smt042 :smt042

The idea of the movie was good, but it's execution was.... shit. :smt067

the best one has to be s1m0ne (simulation one, with Al Pacino), to put something back on the computer, a zip disk is inserted into a cd type drive :smt043

Independence day : Will Smith (again) and some retard hack into and destroy an Alien mothership with far advanced technology, with a shitty little laptop.

La Femme Nikita : A Sega Nomad is used as a tracking/hacking deviceby Michael and Nikita in an episode where they infiltrate another Section gone rebel.

LA Femme Nikita's set designers alays did seem to have a taste for SEGA and niche gaming, though. One sp shows a boy's room with a multitude of Saturn games, while another has a farm recruit playing a hi-tech 3d-type game on an NGPC.

of course all the screens used in these were superimposed.

That Turbo Express thing in Enemy of ther State was just completely hilarious.

Of course how could i have forgotten that crap, hacking an unknow alien ship with no obvious/logical mean to communicate with his apple laptop and yet his magical mac interfaces without any problems and loads a virus based on mac os/ unix and uploads it to an alien computer with unknown workings and lowers the shield.

Gahh i really hate this kind of crap, okay the movie was very good but these kinds of things just annoy the hell out of me and reduce the fun i have in the movie.

Actually you can use minidiscs for backuping data , there is a kit you can buy that allows you to store 75 megs of data on standard minidisc and with a HD minidisc player you can store 1 gigabyte of data.

*cough* follow the white rabbit :smt042

Anderson sold that dude a disc from a hack :smt083

as for the backup device onto minidisc, it is not impossible however Sony originally were pretty adamant that MiniDisc was not for data storage , music only (back when all the films were using them for hacks) it was only recently Sony relaxed their stance :smt023

Still though - they rarely use 3"/5.25" floppies , external hard disks etc for any of the hacks though -_-

I always discovered this too, but the real reason is time and money, since its much easyer to make up what come up on the screen then use a comp with windows, linux, mac(whatever you prefer), plus even though hackers should have been more acurate(angelina jo lee was really hot in it and still is), however going back to the subject, they are not allowed to show how hacking really looks like, thus it looks like crap and such. With matrix it was different since it was kinda of its own made up hacking.

I must disagree. Perhaps with the coming of age you will be more able to fully perceive the intricate delicacies of female beauty :p

Anyhow, thats all beside the point, and I concur that hacking in movies/mass media is *always* crap. But hey, its being made up by directors/designers/journalists that all use Macs, can't blame em :smt043

    re

    The end of Swordfish:

    Me: "What the,... fuck?"

I did like Hackers and Swordfish, though (please don't hurt me). Swordfish was a little out there (wierd ass ending), but was pretty good, although I don't much care for Halle Berry either.

The ridiculous "OS"s don't bother me too much, as long as the movie entertains.

What *does* piss me off, is when a movie is based off of a book or game, and the screenwriter thinks they are doing everyone a favour by completely changing the main character.

I just read recently that the Deus Ex movie was cancelled (thank God, I don't want to see any more harm come to that game). The screenwriter said he wanted to make JC "dirtier" or "grittier" (something retarded like that). He also stated he wanted to make it "near X-rated". Then again, these are only things I've heard about, so it could be false.
