Isn't that thing Trinty does a real exploit? Buffer stack overflow or something like that? Read about it in 2600, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

Yeah, hacking in movies is always pretty pathetic. What about in Jurassic park, where the girl "hacks" the system by merely pointing and clicking on some stupid looking 3D buttons? Damn, that's some master hecker shit.

But it's hollywood, I doubt it would be entertaining to have some guy warwalking for three hours then do a brute force attack that takes all day just to get access to some files that have animal porn in them or whatever.

With the exception of the very beginning and the Halle tit shot (Rumor is She got like a million dollar bonus to do that) Swordfish sucked.

I think the only good hacker movie is Wargames. I don't know much about hacking but it seems like the only movie that used the techniques (wardialing, backdoors, and actually doing research before trying to get in the system) of the time. Good movie.

by the way, why are the "hackers" in movies often young girls? That's not exactly in accordance with reality (with the exception of TheDeathCoaster's gal, perhaps) :smt043

What gets me about most, if not all hacking movies, the person just opens a computer, puts a disk in, and has the NON accessable FBI Login Screen (which can only be accessed Inside the FBI computer net, but there accessing outside of it) and it takes 30 seconds to break the password.

Password bruting isnt hard, but time consuming, sometimes taking weeks to months depending on the complexity of the password!

But yet they can hit 2 buttons to get to a login screen that dont exist, go figure!

Exactly, they need to portray the reality of hacking. Some pasty spotty nerd staring at his screen for 18 hours a day, waiting for either the password to crack, or the FBI to kick down his door.

I am of course being sarcastic, and merely trying to take the piss out of the stereotypical hacker image.
