Sheffield seems be being taken over by Starbucks - two of them within five mins walk of my flat in the last six months. I don't drink coffee, but on the few occasions I have been to a Starbucks, I can't say I liked the experience. Coffee shops, like pubs, should be unique, welcoming and comfortable. Starbucks was just soulless and miserable, all corporate pseudo-quality. If Starbucks was a pub, it'll be a Scream bar. If Starbucks was a furniture store, it'll be an Ikea.

Phinn: Sometimes I would hope that some of the Danish standup comedy DVD´s would be released in foreign countries with English subtitles, since you would crack up of the Danish DVD standup called "Farvelagte Frustrationer" with English subtitles, and by the way . You would laugh your arse off :)

You guys don't even know, I worked there for five years when I was putting myself through college. Becasue of that I despise thier coffee with a passion, but a side effect is that somehow my taste buds have been genetically altered to make all other coffee in the world taste like crap.

Never work there. Once you're there they have you for life. Like the CIA or something. Very, very few of us manage to escape.

On the plus side, I am probably personally responsible for ripping them off thousands of dollars in free drinks I gave my friends. A small blow in the war, but significant nonetheless.

hey, Starbucks in Japan is actually quite a nice place to chill out !! No nobs at all. Actually most of the time its filled with nice women in their 20's ;-) The coffee is good but a bit steep in price however the food is terrible.

I enjoy the moca frapacinos (sp?). My visits there are not frequent, but when there is an opportunity, I take it. No harm.

The only redeeming factor starbucks has is the bottled juices, which I can get anywhere.

    No Starbucks down here (yet).

And honestly if you live down here and want a nice coffee, you would not go to an american store, when any dirty old bar can get you a better coffee (and cheaper)

I've been to starbucks at times, coffees not that bad but i do feel its overpriced. You would not belive the addiction people have for it here in the U.S. It predicted that the average starbucks customer

spends about $30 a week on them. And I do know some that go there every day,

I like the coffee smell, but not the coffee. I used to like it for a while if a lot of hazel nut creamer was put in it but then I lost my taste for that. However, I like Barnie's Java Freezer.

You think the coffee is overpriced? It comes in five lb bags they pay about 12$ for. They turn that around and can make about 500 2 oz. esspresso drinks at $3.50 each. Do the math, then you'll see how "expensive" it is.

The corp. itself is somewhat progressive in it's practices (aside from opening a store every block and taking over the world.) Good medical and dental, and even offer benefits to domestic partners.

But you pay a price for that. They take over your mind.

  17. Despite their evil corporate visage that the slavering masses have endowed them with, they're supposedly pretty good about sticking mostly to free trade coffee, and they seem to (at least the ones here) be hitting up organic as well.

That said, I just don't like their coffee, because it really tastes like ass. The only exceptions I have are their Frappucino drinks. Those are still ridiculously sweet, but they're nice occasionally on a hot day.

I don't go out of my way to avoid going to Starbucks, but I just live a lot closer to the campus library coffeeshop, which is a decent amount cheaper and uses local (well, within the state) coffee that just tastes so much better.

Take into account on where I live, and then ask me about Starbucks.
