I have always wondered why the Dreamcast Broadband Adapter is rare. I have a little bit of information, but I bet someone here knows exactly why it is rare. Thanks.
Demand outstrips supply, and sega already knew it would go software only... So no real reason to make more and have thousands in a warehouse to dispose of.
OOOh, I see what you are saying cool. I lucked out and got one on eBay for $61.00 with a Dreamcast system and had people email me and tell me it was a steal for that price. That's why I posted the topic. :smt040
Yeah, I heard some people ordered them and got an email from Sega saying they did not have any. But who knows, the site I read that from might have been false? :smt017
only 1000 made I used to have 1 - got it when they came out for $250 :smt022 Traded it away earlier this year though
There are definately over 1000 made in all regions. For about a month IIRC, they were sold in American stores and after that on Sega Direct. More than 1000...
Was it ever released in the UK? if not is there any version of dreamkey that was released in the UK that supports it? Just asking as I've never seen an Uk version
In this case, its not like it matters since everyone has to buy them online and on average for no less than $100.
We almost could call it the European market instead of UK market, since almost all releases there, are the same for the rest of Europe (at least, nowdays) Unfortunately, the BBA wasn't released in Europe, despite the fact that Dreamkey v. 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 support it "unofficially" (they're adapted versions of the original Dream Passport)
so is what you're saying that i could get any BBA from around the world and as long as i was using dreamkey >=v2.0 it would work fine?
What is the Dreamcast BBA used for today? I thought all the servers were shut down. Is it used for Dev or Emulation stuff?
. and as you know black BBA is even more rare. I think it was sold for very short period - probably in Japan only. otherwise I believe R7 DC box set comes with black BBA... then there's LAN adaptor apparently released only in Japan prior to BBA release. Unlike BBA this one does only 10M instead of 10/100M. cheers
You can -Surf -Backup games -Play PSO on a homebrew server -Play PSO on a JPN/UK server -Look l337 for the handful of people that want one. This might be the one universally rare piece of hardware, as the Japanese one was also made in limited numbers, but retailed quite cheap (8800 yen if I'm not mistaken)... I got one of the first batch, only to learn that it wasn't compatible with my ISP for PSO, which is odd, b/c it was *THE FIRST* DSL provider in Japan. Kyuusaku: I need to PM you. I'm trying to back up a demo (actually just suck a few videos off of it) and am having a hell of a time. Care to help?
Benne around for a while http://schtserv.funurl.com/ They have been around for a while. It seems that most of the NA BBA's are in the possesion of casual gamers or atleast that is how it seems. I have talked to numerous people who bought one and still have it but don't use their DC anymore. Even more frustarting is that they generally don't want to sell it because they "need" it even though they don't use it. :smt011
