What made it so rare is that not many U.S. games supported it, and sega decided to only sell it on their site. The price of it ($80 i think) didn't help much either.

    Not only on site

You could get it in stores in the states too without much trouble when it was released.

And you can play the US version of Quake 3 online with it still. Half Life DC may be playable with it soon as well...

The BBA is not supported DreamKey at all - I know, I had a BBA for years! Also there is no DreamKey 3.1 :smt017

However, it does work with PlanetWeb 3.0 and the later revisions of Dream Passport

Legit, Dreamkey (since the version 2.0) has the same options that Dream Passport to configure the paralel port where the Modem / BBA is plugged. The problem comes from the version 3.0 / 3.1, since they have many options blocked / hidden. For example, Dream Note (the Japanese Ch@b). It's suppossed that you can do changes via Codebreaker or any of this kind of programs and able the BBA with only a short code (I've never tryed this)

Dreamkey v. 3.1 exists, althought it's just a version of 3.0 for the Spanish market (like 2.0 was for the North of Europe) which included a Telefonica disc for PC and some content for users of this company.

    Salutes.

That configuration was only for AT commands - if you upgraded PAL dc to 56k you would need the command to tell it you are using a faster modem. it was something like AT33=56 or something my memory is rusty. There was no commands nor any PAL software to use the BBA

What? Half Life? Is someone working on a server or something like that?

As far as I remeber the DC version had no multiplayer mode.....so wouldn't that involve having to re-code the game to get an online mode?

Legit, I'm not referring to Hayes AT Commands. I know what an AT command is...

I'm referring to the configuration section of the paralel port for the Modem / BBA. which allow you to modify paramaters like speed and only a few more, like using software or hardware support. The first version of Dreamkey didn't include this option, but the version 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 did, despite of the fact of not working with the BBA...

Oh! And the AT command about which you talk (ATs33=56) didn't get any "real" effect with the European modems, since they used the V.34 rule instead of V.90, so the Conexant chip didn't take care about that command. It's different from other Conexant chips installed in some PC modems, which were V.90 but sold as "fake" 36.6 Kbps.

    WTF

Please point me in the direction of this up and comming "server" o whatever it is if it is true.

As TheDeathcoaster already said there is no multiplayer mode in the Dreamcast port. Unless you found an unreleased copy of the multiplayer version which was supposed to come after the single player version, then how the hell would you play it online? You would also need to find out what kind of stuff the servers were supposed to be running too.
