The faulty wrist strap is the cause... seems nintendo will have a lot of troubles! to add to it 200000 unit from Nintendo DSs substituted in japan due to power unit problems...
Check your sources. Nintendo is offering free replacement on the wrist straps to anyone that wants one. The console itself is completely unaffected. ...and people wonder how rumors get started. -hl718
I posted about something like this happening in Greece. This is a joke right? You can't expect mercede benz to stop making cars because women don't know how to drive for example (joking). You can't sue tennis racket manufacturers if someone injures themselves. The nature of Tennis requires action and motion, and it is do be done so responsibly. That video games are "usually" seated while played is no argument as well, because many sports, such as real Tennis, involve movement etc. I don't see why the tennis-racket or baseball bat analogy isn't put forward. Besides, there's like shit-loads of warning about it. It's not a shotgun, it's a remote control. People who are clumsy get hit. Same thing would happen if some idiot tried to swing a yo-yo the wrong way around. Yet, it is "understood" that a yo-yo is not to be swang around irresponsibly causing harm to one self or others. In the same manner, the Wii remote is an interface that assumes humanity's ability to control and manage tools, as it has done for the past 30.000 years or so. I can't see why everyone is so "shocked"

Could you please translate that Fabio? (First italian name that came to mind, and the cover of Iron Sword!)
in short bad news for NINTENDO due to the great amount of accident with the wii controller, Nintendo announced that they'll call back 3.2 millions wriststrap from worldwide and substitute them due to them not being resistant enough. lots of accident happened with people damaging Tv sets or hurting people nearby. edited: in other news they stated that they were holding some new machines for substitung the wriststraps inside, but i can't find the link
Seems like your quoted publication is simply over-hyping facts. Again, it's simply a replacement program for the wrist straps. Any consoles on store shelves right now already have the new straps (considering the utterly complete sell-out worldwide there isn't a single shop that has old stock on hand) so it wouldn't make any sense for Nintendo to pull consoles from the channel. -hl718 (PS - Just as an aside, whatever word you're translating as "retire" should probably be "recall." Using retire implies that console production is being stopped which is patently false. Not trying to nitpick, just trying to help out as I know English can be a bear of a language.)
It was orignally reported as that, but now they're just offering free replacements: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6182013.stm
is there any replacement program for us outside of US? b\c kotaku only links to one that works for US citizens (http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp)
I still don't understand why people can't keep hold of the controller? It's hardly difficult is it? ...Perhaps they should stop playing games and practice more simple things like grasping plates, random fruit or cups...purely to improve their grip a bit more
don't worry really, i appreciate. also in other news they said that the new flood of machine will be in shops slowlier because of such a problem... and yes, maybe it's overhiped (those are news from belusconi's press )
All of the local, regional Nintendo offices are handling the replacement. So if you're in the US/Canada you contact NOA. If you're in the UK you contact Nintendo UK. If you're in Japan, you contact NOJ. etc... Check your localized Nintendo website for details. If it hasn't been updated yet, it should be within a day or so. -hl718
Personally i think you should be made to take a test to prove your not a complete fucktard before you buy a wii. Then none of these strap incidents would occur.
I cant wait to hear the first post from someone in this topic "Oh shit, broke my TV with Wiimote!" Ill laugh til the cows come home
EXACTLY! My friends and I play bowling 4 player. It is DESIGNED to allow you to swap one remote between all 4 players. Doing so and putting the strap on and off is a pain in the arse. We couldn't be bothered. So we just held on to the controller - novel, that! I can't understand why people think the wrist straps are to be used to support the weight. I can't understand why people can't simply tighten them better. And when playing boxing, what do these people do with the nunchuk? You play with that too, and there's no wrist strap!
