Yes! Finally after a whole year (almost) the Wii finally gets something aimed at the older gamer. Sure, Bio Hazard 4 Wii edition is good as is Umbrella Chronicles but they were missing something. Yesterday No More Heroes was released under the Marvelous Entertainment label. That alone was enough to make gamers wary about buying it. As we all know, Marvelous Entertainment aren't exactly known for killer titles. Anyway, I found out that the team behind Killer 7 (released by Capcom) for the Game Cube were also behind No More Heroes. So I took the plunge and paid out 6450 of my hard earned yen and am I sure pleased ! I'd describe the game as a cross between Killer 7, Shenmue and Headhunter. The style of the game is beautiful from it's lovely cell shaded graphics, the way the action flows and to the actual design of your surroundings. This has the trumps up on Killer 7 in every angle. Then there's the Shenmue aspect of it. At home you can watch TV with actual music videos, check out your trading cards, play with your cat, change your clothes and so on. Even to save you need to take a dump in the toilet! Fantastic!. Also like Shenmue you have to do part time jobs to earn cash. Finally the Headhunter aspect comes from riding your bike around the city to get from place to place. Thankfully it controls a lot better than what Headhunter did. No more heroes is all in English, well the voices are which is great. Loads of adult one liners in there, sexual or just plain cursing. Right at the beginning of the game your main player is talking about some bad guy he needs to take out when he say this line "I hear he's the shit or is that just he is shit?" Sounds great on a Wii game. Then you've got enemies saying fuck you and so on as you take them out. As for playability I'd say the team that put this together have made good use of the Wii controls. The numb chuck moves you about while you lift your laser katana up or down with the Wii remote. Using the laser katana is done with the press of the A button. Very easy to use but most importantly it works well. Other moves include a special slow motion special attack which is done by moving the Wii remote in the direction shown on the screen. The only major complaint I have about the game is the camera. Many times the camera will be showing a view from the side of your character making it impossible to see who you are attacking. You can however manually move the camera using the D-Pad or you can reset it to a behind your character view by pressing the Z button on the numb chuck. It's not actually as bad I make it out to be but let's just say it could have been a lot better. So, if you're a Wii owner after something a bit more adult then get yourself No More Heroes right now! Fantastic game  Yakumo
Ah finally, I was looking forward to this too. Thanks for the review, sounds great! But isn't the japanese version "censored"? Coins instead of blood or something like that?
No, the coins are what you collect to buy stuff so I can't see them replacing any blood. All the language is in there so I can't see why the blood would go. There is some but not a great deal. No it wasn't because we never got it like most of the other western dev' stuff I wanted Transformers the movie but that never came out either and neither did the Simpsons game which I also wanted. No More Heroes is rated D which is a 17 or over rating. The only one higher than that is Z which is 18 or over. You can see the japanese rating guides here - http://www.cero.gr.jp/rating.html Yakumo
Ooh, how suprisingly useful. Thanks Yakumo! (and no, I wasn't being sarcastic, you flipping pessimists)
If there is one thing I hate, it is when games come out around the same time as other big profile games. I mean, fuck, how the hell do you compete against Super Smash Bros Brawl? It is on my list of things to buy, though. I really wanted to play Killer 7, but the gameplay seemed too crappy to me.
I was hoping that SNK had ported Doki Doki Majo Shinpan or Jaleco had ported Idol Suchie Pai 4 to the Wii, much more fun.
Sounds cool. I hope it gets released in the US. It seems like if they could release Killer 7, they could release this.
Easy, people like me would never buy Super Smash Bros Brawl. I just don't like those games. Maybe because I'm a sad old fart  Yakumo
I have been following this game since it's leaked trailer around the wii announcements. I guess I better put aside a $100 for both this and brawl. As for the censored part will find out when it comes over here to the U.S. I find it odd that games that get M here will get a Z over in japan. I mean dead rising was toned a little bit for it's Japanese release and they still gave it a Z.
It's all the fault of these new bollocks CERO rating crap that the government introduced. Before that Japanese games could be as violent as you wanted. Yakumo
been waiting for this game since it was first announced.. and now I get to hear it's censored in EU (and Japan)!! >_< That's it, I'm getting a modchip for my Wii so I can play the game as it was intended.
So, do you actually get to move the katana around with the wiimote? or just make combos by swinging on this or that direction? Big deal dude, both games blows ass, like 6/10 or less on most reviews...
I got to play it for a few minutes yesterday...seems that pressing "A" will attack with the katana and then an arrow will pop up on screen pointing in a certain direction - flip the Wiimote in that direction and you will perform a particular slashing action.
