Did I totally miss the announcement on the Wii-mote having shoulder buttons? After watching this Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam video on IGN, It appears that the user is pressing shoulder buttons. Anybody got the scoop? http://media.wii.ign.com/media/824/824474/vids_1.html
I don't know if we are talking about the same thing here. If you watch the video, the player has the controller rotated as if he was using an original NES controller, but his index fingers appear to be hitting shoulder buttons like those on say, the SNES. All the pictures of the Wii-mote that I have seen do not show any buttons along the sides of the controller, only the top and bottom.
all apart of the new ones. i know there`s other pictures were you can see this too, but couldnt dig them. And no, its not photoshoped. talk about killing a sleek and simple design. With god damn purple buttons!
Thats new to me. up to now even, if you visit wii's official site, the shoulder buttons are nowhere to be mentioned in the listing of control buttons. Purple is gay, and its a mistake - if not changed pronto it could give that bad kiddie image a go again. why can't they stick to the normal colored buttons they had in the first place? Must they destroy everything beautiful? damn you nintendo and your gay taste for purple, damn you i say!
by gay i don't mean homosexual, I mean ruined aesthetics. I haven't got anything against gay folks anyway, its not my business what they like etc. Also, purple isnt considered a feminine/gay color, but pink is actualy. Nevertheless, the term "Gay" does apply as in "lame" because it ruins the slick monochrome shiny colouring of the rest of the controller. Clear enough?
ok, ok, we all understand what he means by gay. I agree, however, that nintendo needs to get away from their obsession with purple. aesthetically, the ipod look goes out the window with more than one color. Purple definitely was a gamecube motif that needs to be left alone. Still, no one can truly confirm the existence of the shoulder buttons. Watch the video and you will understand. -Sean
After looking at some pictures there appears to be just one shoulder button. The retro remote is a different beast so it might not have the same number of buttons as the wii mote. The two shoulder are actually on the anlouge of the nunchuck.
the single Purple button might be similar to what the Z-button was first requested by developers, a debug shortcut button of sorts. As such I pray it won't make an appearance in the final product.
Considering how much the Wii has in common with the GameCube, you can understand why Nintendo may want to keep the same colour scheme. I'm quite fond of the more "grown up" approach, even if much of the Wii's style is blatantly ripped from the iPod school of design...
