From the Seattle PI, http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/285027_nintendo14.html The Wii will launch in the US Nov.19, just a few days after sony. Retailing for 250, it will include Wii Sports but only one controller. Nintendo claims they will have 4 million units allocated for this year. Additionally, there are more than 25 nbew games before the end of the year. Unfortunately, Mario Galaxy won't be available till '07, but twilight princess is still on track. Games retail for 50, with virtual console games going for 5-10. It will include the ability to view photos on tv, as well as browse the internet, check the weather, and an interactive news channel. Overall, it's a bit more expensive and a bit latter launch than I expeted, but still planing on preordering one immedietly. Info from the press conference 500 yen for NES games, 800 for SNES, 1000 for 64 30 Nintendo games, and 30 Megadrive/PC engine at launch, along with 3 MSX games. 10 new virtual console games every month Famitsu reporting Dec. 2 launch, 25000 yen
Is that just Japan, though? Pricing isn't always frequent from country to country, and Japan tends to pay more for stuff in general.
:crying:ah crap, no DVD video playback? Having no DVD video playback goes against : In a surprise announcement, Nintendo said that it wanted to make Wii a living room centerpiece by shipping the system with features outside of the videogame realm. http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732669p1.html
Way too much for the virtual games. You can probably get most of the original carts for those prices.
The NES and some of the SNES games will be a rip-off, but the N64 games should be a decent deal, as well as some of the other system games. It sure beats buying SFII on Xbox live for 800 Credit Points.
Just curious, when someone buys something off the VirtCon, does Nintendo get 100% of the profits, or do the original artists/companies get a share of it also?
Let me rephrase: ...most of the original carts [of the games that they will be willing to offer] for those prices. :icon_bigg
well i just read on gamespot that the virtual console game will be tied to your account. So if you accidently delete them or lose them(im guessing on a sd card) you will be able to download them agian free of charge.
wiigion frwii Sounds like the wii is gonna be wiigion fwii (region free) too http://blog.wired.com/games/index.blog?entry_id=1556591
wow, wasn't this supposed to be the "cheap" console for the non gamers? not really a great deal when it's 5 year old gamecube technology, and still costs $250 with one controller. If it were to launch at $199, it would be great. You still come out to around $400 with a wii ($250), an extra controller set ($60), another game ($50), and a memory card ($20) then tax. One of their main selling points is worthless now, as it's not very family friendly right out of the box for cheap if you have to go buy a few extra $60 controllers. Games are still $50, so where's the savings to the consumer from the supposedly cheaper production costs?
$250 is what a game system is supposed to cost. I'd say thats a hell of a lot cheaper than $499 360 or $599 PS3.
yes, but with those, it's known that you're supposedly getting top technology with the best graphics on a console. This was supposed to be a cheap and fun group party console, not based on graphics. I don't see how that is when it still costs $400 if you want all I listed above, and that still only gives you two controllers. I'm guessing they decided to mark it up, and will be making a profit off every one sold. Yes $250 is cheap, but only in relation to the other far superior consoles. It's not as cheap as it should be. And for all the hype about lower production costs, games are still $50, which is only considered cheap now I guess because the next gen stuff bumped theirs up by $10.
Before the conference I was dead set on getting a Wii regardless of anything. Trauma Center, MP3, and the new Zelda had me sold. Without MP3 theres only 2 games, how long before they release another title I want? A month? Two months? Whats the time frame on releases post launch? $60 for a controller is extortion. I like how you can buy the parts seperate, which is great if only one piece breaks, but it's $27 for a wavebird right now. As for the virtual console, the games are already deved, they already paid for themselves. Quit being so damn greedy. It's great for games like Final Fantasy 2 and 3 along with Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG which cost an arm and a leg on ebay. However the translations for those were mostly trash and I'll continue to use the retranslations that are available. Now bring out some of the Satelleview games that were not available to us Americans along with any other snes game we never got, ala FF5 and Bahamut Lagoon. I'd be more than willing to burn some cash on a few titles I never got to play, as long as the translations don't suck. As for n64 and NES games, you can get them for a dime a dozen relatively easy, just have to look. The lack of pre-orders on various websites disappoint me. Halo 2 had preorders well up into June 04, granted thats a disk that can be pressed by the thousand per day and the Wii is a console that is probably produced by the hundred or less. I'm willing to wait out in the cold on a Sunday, but only if I'm guarenteed what I want. Even now 2 games isn't quite selling me on the Wii. 2 games+wii sports that is. A game I really don't care about and should have been a free pack-in. And while I am late to the show I finally got a broken XBox that required a modchip to actually be bootable. The Wii channels are absolutely beat down by what XBMC offers, and I hardly play the thing now as it is. Will the Wii end up as a $250 trophy on a shelf?
When it launched it was $499. This one is launching at $250. Seems like a bit of a difference to me. Yeah it is less advanced technology than the competitors, that's why it doesn't cost as much as them. It doesn't cost $400, it costs $250. By what you're saying, the total for me getting a new PS3 should be $730 ($600 conosole, $50 game, $20 memory card, $60 controller.) That may be true, but even then one of them is still cheaper than the other. When did it become normal for a game system to cost so much? So the components inside are as advanced as what's in a high end PC, true. But you can put a half-decent computer together for less than $600 if you shop around. Don't get me wrong, I know these companies need to make money, just I personally can't justify spending so much on a game system. For $600 the damn thing should do my laundry, make me pancakes, and shave my balls on command.
