Wii Price Hint from Nintendo Financial Report in Japan - Televised Revolution LESS than 25,000 Yen
    [IMG]Fri May 26 2006 19:32:46 Hong Kong Time - Nintendo Wii

Nintendo had itself a press conference yesterday in Japan and hinted at a price that will be under 25,000 Yen per system. This was confirmed by Yoshihiro Mori, Nintendo's Senior Managing Director, at the financial report event, where the annual results were publicized. This is in line with the 199 ~ 249 US$ price range that the industry has been speculating on for the last couple of months. This would convert to 222 US$ or 174 Euro, but again that is the maximum price tag, not the final SRP.

In related news, Nintendo has announced to the financial world that it forecasts sales of 6 millions Wii Hardware units and 17 millions of software titles for Wii before the end of the fiscal year in Japan (that's in next April). The firm is confident in its newgen product and it ought to be, considering the momentum they have been gaining over the last few months. E3 was all theirs, they literally stole the show and the stock exchange already reacted on that. Additionally, people who have tried the actual Wiimote can't get over themselves, myself included.

The press buzz is at its peak and even competitors' high profile executives praise Nintendo's machine: Microsoft's Peter Moore was quoted saying recently that "People are going to buy two [machines]. They're going to buy an Xbox 360 and they're going to buy a Wii... for the price of one PS3... People will always gravitate toward a competitively priced product -- like what I believe Wii will be -- with innovative new designs and great intellectual property like Mario, Zelda and Metroid.", to which Sony's Phil Harrison replied "I think Peter Moore is exactly right, Nintendo [Wii] will be the second system consumers purchase after PlayStation 3". You can trash-talk East Coast vs West Coast all you want, Nintendo is in all conversations, one way or another.

Gamers' opinion too seems to shift swiftly in favor of the Kyoto firm, if you judge by a survey recently published by Famitsu in Japan:

Which hardware are you now looking forward to the most?

    Wii - 68,8 %
    PS3 - 21,0 %
    Xbox 360 - 7,2 %
    NDS - 3,0 %

What do you think about the price of the PlayStation3?

    88,4 % - I think the price is high.
    10,9 % - The price is appropriate.
    0,7 % - The console is inexpensive.

[IMG]Stars are lined up for Big N apparently. So much so that everyone seems finally keen on getting over the Revolution renaming to Wii. Initially, even Miyamoto-san thought first that Revolution fitted better to what Nintendo was pulling, but has let the Wii brand grow into him since then. I have to admit that I myself gave it a cold reception at first (to say the least), but after playing the console at E3 and having great fun with it, surrounded by "Wii" writings, videos, and chit-chats, I have to conceide I got more acclimated already. I've been Wii'd. I will probably never get over the Wii pseudo-poetical press release from Perrin Kaplan though.

Also unveiled yesterday was Opera's plan to make their browser available to the Nintendo Wii (while they were already in line prepping a browser cart for the Nintendo DS). In an interview with IGN, Scott Hedrick, executive vice president of Opera for Devices, said: "The remote control is an extremely advanced tool. Opera plans to use this to its full advantage and it will provide an intuitive way to surf the Web."

"Imagine the possibilities in terms of surfing with a motion sensitive remote control."

Wow, internet with a Wiimote... I imagine it will be exactly the same as on a Dreamcast with the lightgun plugged in...

The price thing is irrelevant in the UK, we will pay probably £200+ and for that sort of money, I want more than a Gamecube +1

I think this time it may be very close to the £150 mark otherwise people won`t make as an almost impulse purchase

Keep your internet off of my game console.

Though, I could see someone hacking a Wiimote into an old Power Glove for the full effect...

Right now XE puts that 25k yen price at $216.XX. I'll bet it'll be the $200 price tag Nintendo has slapped on the last few they put out.

174 euro? still too much to be really sucessfull.. come one ninty, you can do it!
129.90 and you 'll really have a chance this time (if 3rd partys... will port MGS, WE, FF, DW ecc ecc) suddenlòy everything seems bleak :(

what is the state of 3rd party support for now?

Dude, 130 euros? 150 maybe, even 170, but honestly you guys should be thankful if ninty respects the currency instead of just slapping a euro mark in the $199 Wii MSRP

    Wakka wakka wakka... *ahem*

I really hope they don't just bolt on the Wiimote to every game, I like my controllers, they work, and I wont get RSI from using them for more than an hour. I will get a Wii and a PS3 regardless, the same as I have a DS which sits on a shelf gathering dust as I hate using a stylus, in the vain hope of being able to play games with useable controls.

Because it was a novel idea that just didn't work well. The idea of using regular hand motions in a video game opens up a lot of possibilities. Hopefully, the Wiimote will work right.

Videogmaes, hell, the entire world is full of great ideas, some of them even did work yet they failed due to minor issues like bad ad campaigns or poor distribution.

The difference? the power glove didnt work from the start, it was more a hype bubble than a real, new way to control games, that why it failed...

Having never had the opportunity to actually use a Power Glove, I can only go by the accounts of others regarding how poorly it worked. However, from a controller standpoint, it was and still is a new method of controlling console games.

Yes, there have been applications and devices that function the way the glove was suppposed to, but these were never mainstream. If such a device were to be mass produced (and work the way it is supposed to), it would change the way certain games are played.

You said it yourself: some games. I see the PG being good for a very limited number of genres, yet the Wiimote is pretty versatile and could be used for almost anything

well having a gyroscope on each of your (hopefuly) five fingers isnt a bad idea, forming a glove with per-finger movement. imagine grabbing someone and then beating the crap out of them..virtualy.hey its even legal that way, what a nice plan...now only to add wireless ankle-motion sensors to kick the living crap out of your virtual pal too :)
