Here is what nintendo forums had to say

    "
The Wii console does not need any type of "startup disc", so it is likely that this console has had all its system files wiped, which will mean it will need to be repaired, as Nintendo does not have any type of disc or download for reinstalling the system files for the general public, only for the Nintendo repair technicians, sorry.

So that does mean your only options are to either return it to the eBay seller for a refund or exchange for a fully functional console, or giving a call to Nintendo's 1-800-255-3700 (6 am ~ 7 pm Pacific, everyday) Customer Service number, or use their webform to contact them, so that they can set up the repair process for you."

He totally pulled that out of his arse.

actually it sounds more like he has no clue about that stuff at all.

It clearly says it needs the startup disc and he says the Wii doesn't need it?
    Wow that makes sense NOT

Do you mean you have made contact with bushing?

I dont think that they actually work for Nintendo? Why not send Nintendo an email directly and ask for the startup disk:-

The guy who wrote that reply has this in his profile:

Expertise: Haunting Nintendo Forums Since 06-09-2004... So I'm going to go with the concept that he isn't a Nintendo employee and rather a layman who likes to think he is qualified to talk about such things but really doesn't have a clue that there is an underbelly to everything in this world.

Exactly right. He's not a NOA employee. They have usernames similar to NOA_TECH_JANE

No, it installs the system menu.
They were in the rush for producing the units and system software were not ready yet. Instead of having to update each unit manually they just set placeholders and had an updater disc mastered.

There's no point on sending out an disc which install system menu 2.0 if they can take the early wii on and replace it with a "New, improved and safe" wii with system menu 4.3, secure boot1 (no bootmii) and non moddable DVD drive.

    Yet another update!
I am not going to send this Wii to bushing. We shall never unlock the secrets of this wii. Alas!

    He knows why.

Now, if a mod would kindly lock this thread, we can all pretend this never happened.

    Not really...

This is bad, would be nice if we could get this done... When its all about the shipping costs, I take them if you want, at least one way.

Just drop me a PM, either Bushing or paul.strickler

    LMK...

It's okay, we just had a slight miscommunication :) I'll update the thread once I get the Wii and have had a chance to analyze it.
