In an ass-turning of events, theres a new rumor in the industry that the Wii wont be the hell-thats-too-much-for-an-overhauled-GC $250, but only $170 US dollars! executive VP and COO of EA's worldwide studios, David Gardner, has revealed that the publisher believes the console will retail for around US $170 in North America. In an interview to be published later this week, Gardner said: "I've heard in Japan that the price is about $170, but I don't know if the price has been set in Europe yet." Please ninty let this be trueray: Source
If this is true, I'm expecting Sony and Microsoft to take a serious beating. Hell, I want one, and I don't even like Nintendo.
i'll believe it when i see it. This will probably be the first console for which im going all-NTSC. Im sick of paying shitloads more for consoles here in europe.
I think the ps3 is an upgrade of the ps2, as much as the xbox360 is an upgrade of the xbox. But i dont think the wii is an upgrade of the Gamecube. At all.
I belive the EA exec is refering to a previous news bit, where it was mentioned that an analyst in Japan belives the $170 will be the final price.
I meant trends, not what a consumer thinks should be 'normal'. The price for a brand new system over the past years have been at $299, $399, etc. Nothing like $276, or $370.
I see it the same way. MS and Sony are trying to be at the PC-level in terms of graphics etc. I personally think they are failing in that aspect. When the PS1 came out the PC wasnt able to produce that kind of quality for quite a while Now we see PCs leaving Xbox360s in the dust, and the Xbox360 isnt even a year old yet. I like Nintendo's approach more. Console -> fun games for on the couch. PC -> gfx powerhouse etc.
Perhaps we will get the OFFICIAL pricing/launch details shortly Nintendo10:15 AM - 11:15 AMat stand, hall 5 F01"Wii prove our promise" Leipzig show They "have" to announce this today as I am positive it will be launching mid November Anyone here at/going to Leipzig?
I dont see that price happening. Maybe from Yen to USD conversion but knowing NOA, it will still probably be $200. Well considering the fact they are so alike most developers have been starting or doing their Wii games on G-dev units. Not a whole lot was changed from Gamecube to Wii (mostly just upped Mhz). That is a hell of alot different then microsoft going from x86 to ppc (multicore) and ps3 developing a new multicore mips cpu which are serious changes from their predisesor.
considering that there's a variety of controllers which cost more than your average controller, a tuned-up gamecube and enough memory (both flash and ram), 170 seems to be a bit low.not to mention out of line with nintendo's 200 bucks tradition. I wouldn't mind paying 200 dollars for it, as long as it came with a Wii sports title at least (the airplane thing looks sooo addictive - I remember flying aimlessly with pilotwings, just for the fun of it)
On August 15, 2006, Nikko Citigroup issued a report giving an estimated price of JPÂ¥19,800 (~US$170) for the Wii based on the estimated hardware costs.[14] Considering that's a finance company, I'm going to assume there's a healthy profit margin included there.
After expecting them to annouce the price/launch date at the Leipzig show yesterday ZERO / NADA etc etc :noooo:
There you have it : Source : http://wii.ign.com/articles/727/727654p1.html NOTE : "Sell 4 Mio units by the end of the year" !! Holy Sh*t O_O
