Someone on gbatemp accidentally bought a Wii U dev/debugkit. Source: http://gbatemp.net/threads/wii-u-developer-console-wont-boot-retail-disc-pics-help.358882/
I'd assume it was from craigslist or something similar, I really don't know, here's the quote from the guy anyhow.
Nice job posting the serial number. I love how all the gbatemp children think they're master hackers, yet lack basic knowledge about anything other than flashcarts. I bet he'll post it to ebay and the 'tempers will bid it to high heaven. Remember those DS test carts that showed up a few years ago? All they did was play a little animation, yet they sold for hundreds of dollar due to hype on that site.
Ah, the wonders of Craigslist. The Albert Craigslist has a listing for a PS4 dev kit- I emailed and asked if he could ship, no response. That is a very cool system though, and I'm liking the external antenna connectors. Not to mention the extra hardware atop the contablatroller- is that for a wired wireless connection or simply extending the effective range?
I'd wonder if there's a option you could set the system region free? Cuz that'll be awesome! even tho the country id settings is the next best thing. Now if only we can grab a 3DS devkit next!
Neither the 3ds or WiiU play retail games so it doesnt matter if it is region free (feel free to correct me if Im wrong, but it looks to be the case, plus with Nintendo's history of disk prototyping it is very likely)
Finally some final hardware dev/debugkit pictures. Looks grand, would buy even if it doesn't play games.
That's not a dev kit. That's the WiiU equivalent of a NR Reader/RVT Reader. I thought that was common knowledge around these parts.
Depends on what your developing with. Unity or Nintendo Web Framework. But you can certainly use either kit to develop with both technologies.
Just because you can run debug signed code on it doesn't make it a dev kit. Nintendo sells actual WiiU dev kits. This isn't one.
Well yes. I wasn't trying to imply that the hardware pictured wasn't official. It is. Just trying to make it clear that it isn't a dev kit. Calling this a "dev kit" would be like calling a PS3 or Xbox 360 Test Kit a dev kit.
You must not know many that develop with NWF then cause CAT-R's can stream code from a PC using NWF. Yes, using Unity you have to master to a SD or CATR Disc. But for NWF you don't need that, you only need a host PC, CAT-R, and the NWF software. Which then makes the CATR a dev kit if your using it for NWF purposes.
You can get technical all you want, a lot of these non-public kits are usually used in the development process of making a game. They may not be the actual devkits, but they are development hardware nonetheless.
