Wii U to be replaced next year with NX

Your examples are baffling to say in the least. Are you concerned with the misnaming or the fact that people think a console that actually will be coming out is actually coming out?

 

I honestly doubt the NX is intended to be a replacement for the Wii U. Everyone loves to hate on it and seems to think the smartest move is for Nintendo to abandon it but I don't see it happening. By the looks of it Nintendo is still planning to support it with all the new first party titles that have been announced for it.

My theory is that the NX is going to be a new third tier device to compete with the smartphone market. In your first link they even quote Iwata and he mentions NX alongside the fact that Nintendo is partnering with DeNA to produce mobile games. I don't think that these are separate ventures.

What hurt the Wii u a lot was its processor. A lot of developers said that while the graphics chip was good the CPU was too slow to take advantage of it making it tough to have a game look better than on PS3 and 360. Plus when ps4 and Xbox one came out Wii u was already obsolete graphics wise and more difficult to port. Also making it look similar to Wii really confused people. While the tablet had some real great ideas they should of focused more on horsepower and only have the tablet if it could of been made a lot cheaper.

 

The NX isn't necessarily just a home console. Iwata specifically stated that it is more of a third pillar for Nintendo. NX is really Nintendo's answer to Apple's iOS. There will be many form factors that will all be able to play the same games.

I hope they stop using wavy sticks and similar and just go back to regular controllers, like GameCube and all before it. I hate modern console systems not just because of their DRM, visual not gameplay emphasis, but also because I much prefer normal controllers. Got a Wii ages ago reluctantly, for Mario Galaxy 1 and 2; and the wavy sticks worked ok for that but not other games IMO. Retro rules!
