I just bought 2 Wiis, seems one is a full brick. I do not know if it has bootmii of any other tools on it and I do not have a NAND dump of it, It is a RVL-001 so I checked rescue menu, it has version 4.3 on it. Can I fix it, if so how. If not I'll just sell for parts.
One of my Wii consoles went bad on me last week when I tested it out but all I get is black screen. It powers on and takes the discs in but the screen just stays black. If I power the console off and leave the disc in it will spin the disc. If I power it on and put a disc in later it doesn't spin the disc. I tried Donkey Kong since it asked me to update on another Wii I have in the house but the screen just stays black. I can't sync the controllers either. This broken Wii has no homebrew on it at all and after calling Nintendo they wanted 80 + tax to fix it.
You check the hollywood chip for the date code. Check against this list: http://www.hacksden.com/showthread.php/112-Wii-Boot2-compatible-serial-number-List If old enough, dump the nand and overwrite boot2 with bootmii instead. Reflash the nand Boot the Wii with SD card with tools that can be booted via bootmii. Reinstall the missing/corrupt IOS/System Menu Wont help, hes on 4.3 and there is no newer update. If you can get into the rescue menu, it might just be a broken bluetooth module. The eeprom on the BT module can come corrupt and it stops the console booting. Change for a known good one before doing anything else.
No, you check board type (just take the battery out of the battery receptacle and if it has a 01 near the "CE" circle it's the board with vulnerable boot loader (RVL-CPU-01) If there's a 10/20/30/40 or higher number printed right by that "CE" circle the boot loader is not vulnerable and you can forget about unbricking without a backup. You see, you don't even need to open it or check serial number to know if it has a vulnerable bootloader ...
