Umm. Seriously never use Mame in an argument to talk about performance. :fresh:

    I wouldn't hold my breath.

Why not? Mame is regularly a more faithful representation of the original than a port on a recent system. For old games, especially.

The point he was trying to make was that the games run slow or poorly through mame. This is a bogus way to talk about performance since MAME is not writen for speed. It's written for accuracy.

Like take for instance N64 games. I'm pretty sure the Wii's n64 emulators are using some form of HLE for some aspects of the N64 hardware. Yet N64 arcade based games in MAME will run far slower then say a standard N64 PC emulator since MAME does full emulation of the RSP/RDP via LLE.

So again, Mame goes for accuracy, not speed which would not be a huge priority if someone was writing a emulator for VC based on a complicated platform.

I understand your point. Mine still holds true though: MAME is often the better solution (for both accuracy and speed). I'm also not sure which N64 based arcade games you're talking about. Last I checked, Tower & Shaft, etc. were not in MAME (I could be wrong though). If they were slower, at this point anyway, I would chalk that up to them being several years behind any given N64 PC emulator in development terms.

I believe Magical Tetris should be supported. There is a driver for Alex64 board (which is n64 based hw).

    Here is the Alex64 driver
    http://mamedev.org/source/src/mame/drivers/aleck64.c.html

MAME is fine for older games since they are much simpler to emulate but the more complicated the HW get, the slower it will be in mame since again MAME is not writen for speed.

Most N64 PC emulators don't emulate every part of the hardware fully.

There already is a really solid Model 3 emulator out there that runs on a reasonable spec PC.

What's it called? Wouldn't mind checking it out.
I actually own Tower & Shaft on the PCB, so haven't bothered. The only new stuff I'm interested in MAME-wise is Naomi & G-Net...both of which only have preliminary drivers.

Isn't this the thorn in everyone's ass (lower compatibility)? I've not kept up w/ N64 emulation in the least, but I hear that even now there's loads of games that don't play 100% perfectly.

Sorry my bad, I ment model 2 (brain laps).
    http://nebula.emulatronia.com/

Naomi is a really long way off but I do think one Dreamcast emulator now supports naomi GD & rom games. G-Net I would love to see actualy.

Well it's a trade off. I think if you're serious enough to need perfection, you'll just actualy buy the N64 carts or own a Flash device. For the rom kiddies, its enough to keep them happy.

Doh! Yeah, not much on Model 2 that gets me excited (that hasn't been ported).

Define long? The CHD's have been added to uh... those places. :) But yes, apparently NullDC (?) supports Naomi.

Haven't gotten around to trying any yet. There's only a couple (Kollon, and like one other) that I want to try that haven't been ported. I can think of about 3-4 Naomi games that didn't make it to the DC that I'd like to try out.

Want a full-res picture of my Tower and or Shaft?

That's going to be taken out of context....

Mame may not be the fastest but it is the most accurate, still I can't see Namco writing a proper emulator for the System 21 games as the games have been ported to so many other platforms that it's likely it's just been rewritten in a high level language...

It's nice to see a couple of new titles in Wii Arcade, although currently all by Namco, some have been released on the Playstation/PS2 but there are a few new titles like Numan Athletics, but I still can't get excited as a lot of them have been done soo many times before, I mean how many times do Taito need to release Space Invaders? I'm sure it's the most ported game ever...

What gets me is why do people keep buying Space Invaders? You've played one version, you've played them all unless they tart it up gameplay wise and then it's not Space Invaders any more.

I also wonder who keeps buying those Namco Museum titles? It's like Namco releases the same games over again every once in a while in a differently titled package. How many ports of Pac-Man or Galaga do we really need, especially when they're also on XBLA?

Hori, and it's hard to mod.

Space Invaders Extreme are great games , and they "respect" the original :)

It's one thing to jazz it up, it's another thing to release the same Upright, Tabletop, Colour and Part II Space Invaders on every system known to man... hell my mobile phone came preloaded with the game...
