That was kind of quick but with the way ODEs are selling now it's not really surprising. Shame nobody has done anything about homebrew yet.
Well it's most probable that new generation consoles will have been designed to prevent such device to propagate easily. All current generation consoles have ODE devices and it seems that the security systems designers did not anticipate at all that such device could be conceived. I think that they didn't even conceive that the optical disk drive could be a potential point of entry for hackers. We saw the apparition of the DVD firmware hack in Xbox360, chips that puts the drive controller in debug mode in Wii's and now ODE all over the market. The "traditionnal" methods of copy-protection bypass still exist but I feel that those ODE and hacked DVD firmwares are the most popular; and they seem to do a pretty good job... Maybe up until now.
A good ODE would qualify as a man in the middle attack (like most old-school modchips, but improved). While they could always make it more and more complex to build, as long as there's a physical access to the wires/traces that transport the information from the medium to the console, there will be a possibility to hijack it. No need to run native code like the original Wii/PS3 hacks. They should make it as hard as they can if they want to reduce piracy though, with custom hardware/medium. [EDIT] Just though about it: quantum communication could help them circumvent a man in the middle attack! The console would then cost several hundred thousand dollars though...
Supports os x file formats! Thats a first, usually every exploit requires fat 32 only. But yeah, this cant be a piracy thread because there are no games available to pirate.

XBOX 360 DVD-ROM flashing wasn't good recently, since the newer dashes can detect it (I remember reading). RGH is the way.
Yeah. I had a couple of boxes banned back in the day but I can't recall there being any banwave since 2009 or something. RGH on the other hand will get you banned pretty quickly!
christmas 2011 I think was the last one, then 2009 before it. each time a new firmware has come out to fix how it was detected.
Thats now going as my siggy for the Nintendo forums :congratulatory: In addition, it's also a shame how the 3DS hasn't been cracked yet- only flash carts from the DS made compatible. I'm sure some real good stuff would come from it, too.
Don't get me wrong, I still plan to get a Wii U in the future and it annoys me how people are writing it off even though it hasn't been out a year yet. But right now? Jack and shit.
And Jack left town... I'd be more optimistic if Nintendo's console titles hadn't been mostly sub-par for years now.
I loled at godofhardcores comment as well. This seems very interesting I was wondering when this would happen. It does seem a bit quick.
