Having mentioned the wiki earlier in the day, I decided to go and have another poke around. Frustratingly, I couldn't immediately remember what the URL was (how about having it as a sticky in the forums?), so I hit google. The 1st relevant google link took me to http://assemblergames.com/wiki/dogatemysnes/pmwiki.php?n=Topics.SNES-CD-ROM Looks like the top of that page has had loads of spam links inserted. I thought about just deleting it myself (since it's a wiki), but I thought it might be better to comment here first, in case the admins can figure out the culprit & block 'em or something. (Plus I'm dog tired & would probably mess it up more...)
Is anyone maintaining the wiki anymore? I looked at it recently and it seems to have been mostly destroyed by spam.
Fixed (I think ^_^). What the morons who spam a wiki don't seem to get is that all it takes to remove their spam is to click on history, find the last edit before there spam click restore.
I restored the main page once, but within a couple hours it had already been re-spammed about 10 times. They're just too quick. OH:
There are a lot of bots that just attack default setups of popular software. Usually changing the default is enough to stop it.
I restored the front page and within 30 seconds it had been spammed again. I say lock it down completely.
I am upgrading to new version, the wiki was hacked. All of my edits were instantly changed by a botnet or something.. I have password protected all editing.. let you know if it works once I am done.
I backed up the wiki, and deleted the server side copy. It was completely fucked up, plus I wish I had never used PMwiki in the fist place. I would like to make the wiki a subdomain, like wiki.assemblergames.com. It seems more organized that way anyway. Anyone prefer a certain wiki type? Once it's decided upon, I'd like to set it up with a few volunteers if possible.
second. that what we use at work. as this is a public wiki just make sure ta add something like captcha for registering.
dokuwiki is nice and simple, but may still suffer the same fate. I'd go with mediawiki or PHPwiki. If your looking for someone to maintain the wiki I be happy to volunteer. :icon_bigg
