This is my plan: 1. Purchase a good working 360 Jasper. 2. Have it Jtag'd. Cheap to have done locally. 3. Put in a WD Scorpio 320gb Hdd. I have InsaneNutters tutorial and all the necessary files. 4. Use NXE2God to copy games from DVD's to the Hdd. Does this work properly? That's my plan. Also does the Xbox 360 use a similar file system as the original Xbox? And what's the easiest way to transfer files to it, I use Ftp with the original Xbox?
1&2: JTAG exploit only works on older, a couple of years now, firmwares.. More than likely will have to do the RGH exploit. Which is a bit more expensive, and personally I would prefer to find someone that has a great deal of experience. Might be easier to buy one off of Xbox Scene's forums or somewhere else premodded.
Not sure what this has to do with 360 development myself. I've got a RGH based 512mb Jasper behind me with the latest dash/kernel on it. Runs nicely.
I reposted this in the modding and hacking forum, Moderators feel free to delete this thread and my apologies for posting it in the wrong forum.
You would be better off getting the console R-JTAG'd as it works on all new dashboards and provides great boot times. With JTAG/ RGH consoles you can use any SATA 2.5 drive plug and play without formatting as well.
This would be your easiest option assuming that your console is too new to be JTAGd. Here are some links to the kits you could use. Check out other websites to see if they have your desired kit in stock as most some of them say the next shipment will be arriving by the end of this month. http://www.xconsoles.com/products/rjtag-ultimate-kit.html or http://www.xconsoles.com/products/rjtag-starter-kit.html
You will probably have to have the console RGH hacked, i cant imagine you will find many Jtaggable Jaspers around today. Other than that yes, after the console is hacked you will be able to use 1TB+ drives in the console.
I will repeat myself here to emphesize that R-Jtag is the ideal option. If the console is on dashboard 14799 or below then you can do Rgh1, which will give you terrible boot times. If it is above that you need Rgh2, which will give even worse boot times. R-Jtag gives great times and can be done on any dash.
Here is where I am up to, as luck would have it I picked up an as new Xbox 360 Jasper locally ($80.00) yesterday with controllers, power brick etc, the seller had used it a bit and then put it away. Fingers crossed I checked the dashboard and it's 2.0.7371.0, so if all goes well, does that mean he never went online with it? I know even with the right dash some can't so fingers crossed again I can have it Jtag'd. The thing looks like new and he seems to have only ever played 2 games on it. I have 3 controllers and have tested it all and it works great, I have the HDMI cable connected to my LCD Tv. I am going to contact a few local modders to see about the Jtag next. I have a working small Xbox 360 Hdd that I can put a big Hdd in. So far so good.
It may not mean never. It could mean that the last time it was online was when that dash was the most current available. Don't quote me on that but I do believe that could be a possibility. It does mean that it hasn't been online for many years though. I had the bad luck of buying an old Jasper a few years ago and it was 7371 but I still couldn't do it :/ I hope your's is taggable!
It's most likely going to be 1tb, the 320gb WD Scorpio was all I thought you could use until someone told me if it's Jtag'd you can put in whatever brand and size you want. I learn something new everyday on here. Don't you wish these were as easy to upgrade as the original Xbox?
You can also settle for a Jasper RGH like I did if want to save some money - boot times are great on it actually. I wish everything on the 360 was like the XBOX. Everything is a bit jumbled on the 360 to me. I sorted it out in the end, just a few things are hit and miss.
That's good to hear as I have read all these posts about up to 15 minute boot times and such, but then like you found the boot times are good. I got Forza 4 and when I put it in to see what it looked like it said I must let it update the console or it won't play, "do I want to continue?", whoaaaa I did a quick U-turn, I have even hid the game so no one else will fall for the trap, it will have to wait until after I have it modded, they sure are persistent though. XBMC is brilliant on the original Xbox, I am hoping the freestyle dash will be as good.
If you need it I have the tools for a JTAG but if you can find it elsewhere go there as I'm a smidge backed up.
I have found one in Colorado that is highly recommended by everyone that has used his services, his prices are reasonable and he takes a couple of days before he ships it so he can test it thoroughly, he also supplies literature on what to do and what not to do, I am not going to trust it to the local back yard guys. I don't mind paying for shipping if it's done right.
I'm going to warn you, with late revision consoles (especially Jaspers) it is highly possible that 7371 is still not JTAGable. Some consoles received a patched, split CB with late 7371 updates, blocking the JTAG hack. As for services, I highly recommend Shawnunderse7en on this website (he is a trusted trader on se7ensins and I can personally vouch for him) or on Se7ensins.com and message Shawnunderse7en or iMoses. They are both professionals and are very trustworthy. Ps. If you find a local service, if they have the proper tools, they should be charging no more than $20 and the process should take 1 hour at most.
