WTF? Says I've used my activcation key too many times. Too many times? That's b/c I have to rebuild my machine w/ their piece of shit OS TOO MANY FUCKING TIMES What are my options... are there patches for this shit?
It happens when you change your system too much (ie upgrading) and installing too much. M$ thought 1 install for life must have done the trick and anyone needs to format must be nuts ..... use a corporate key like a naughty boy In the mean time kick up a fuss with M$ ...
last time when I add A SINGLE HDD it asked for activation key. Then when I changed the video card as the one in there died it asked for activation key AGAIN! WTF is this? I understand if someone changed more than, say 60% of system components but just ONE HDD or replacing video card? I don't think so. I had 'uff of that so I just got cracked WinXP even though I have genuine WinXP disc so I won't bothered with this bull again... if you ask me activation key is load of crap! if it wasn't missus I'd have Mac G5 or G6 or whatever by now... he he :-D cheers
Even corporate key's eventually "time out" this happened to me last week... no problem for me, I work in an IT dept with 1500 users, and each PC has an unused product key on the side. :smt045
dunno brother-in-law sent me the cracked WinXP a week after WinXP was released... I wonder why M$ is bother really... it will be cracked a day or two after it hits the shelf so why bother... :-D and I'm sure a lot of people use it even with genuine disc coz it's convenient... cheers
you can always try calling microsoft support and tell them about your situation, i know microsoft used to be pretty lenient about giving people additional activations. if you do decide to call, and they refuse to, demand you talk to their supervisor and bitch to them, and so forth until you get something.
mate I paid for freaking thing so why would I have to go though their automated phone system and keyed in all those numbers to get new activation code... that's crap in my book... cheers
GaijinPunch: Should your problem not be solved by calling support and recurring to legality, contact me and I can help. Greetings.
i know, it's terrible isn't it. norton has the same problem. but what can we do? i don't see anything wrong with pirating it, if that's what you thought i meant by my post, was just trying to help.. personally i try to stay as far away from microsoft products as i can, and if it weren't for a couple of apps i need for work, which don't function 100% under wine in gnu/linux, i wouldn't have any. well good luck to you guys
Hmmm...I'm NEVER asked for an activation key for Windows. I think it's because I have a Dell PC. Weird. And I reformat a lot. Every Dell PC I've done it on, never ever have I been asked for a key. I say just get a c***ked ( ;-) ) key and be done with it. On another note, I've also never had any problems with them bitching about my CD Key for my (retail--bought at Staples) Windows Office 2003 program, which I've re-installed as many times as my OS (like 15). :smt042
Yeah, happened to me when I had video card problems. All I did was take out the video card and reinstall the drivers, and somehow XP thinks I've got a whole new system. But still, the MS people over the phone gave me a new key without any hassle. It's bullshit, but at least they weren't jerks about it (to me at least.) Sucks that it's not a toll free call though.
what about getting a little space for linux on your hdd?or try a live-cd linux first if you're not sure, knoppix is really good. nah?
Assuming you're using a genuine copy, the option is simple. Phone activate. If the phone activation says it is invalid, you go through to an operator. They will help, no problem.
my point was why do I have to call in the place? :angry I understand if I rebuild the whole PC but for every time I replace video card, USB card and etc. that's silly... In fact I have two legit WinXP - one retail and the other OEM - so M$ had enought money from me and unless M$ offers toll free# to us I aint gonna call the number again... 'nuff said...
