I hate to admit it but tonight I played Dj Hero and it was Awesome.

Not just awesome but WAY WAY WAY better than Beatmania.

Yeah Guitar Hero is oversaturating the market and lego Rock Band is some heavy shark jumping but hey I still love Rock Band.

I wonder when Activision is going to copyright Dance hero....

But Konami did all these games first...You think they're feeling A LITTLE stupid keeping beatmania and Guitar Freaks, Drum Mania and Keyboard mania in Japan for so long?

Now they can't even get a piece of the pie they baked first.

i was thinking about this not to long ago. for far to long the mainstream public in America was unaware these beatmani games existed.

People loved DDR and it's done well but I'm sure Dance Hero for Natal/PS EYE/ Something on WII will blow even that away ( I SWEAR this game is underway though I have no proof of course)

But the music genre is getting pretty crowded Guitar Hero just has TOO TOO many installments and the note charts suck. I don't however see them going away anytime soon. I see Guitar Hero sales dying and new "Hero" games replacing them.

    Edit HOLY SHIT

    They really are making it

Harmonix, Red Octane, and Activision all laugh themselves to sleep at night for making oodles of cash with concepts by Konami.

Konami did it to themselves though. I don't feel bad for them.

The kind of music in the Bemani series of games doesn't translate as well (to reception and therefore, sales) overseas. I'm sure those games are well-done, but most people aren't already fans of the music within.

Guitar Freaks also had music nobody had ever heard of, and IIRC it was really hard, unlike GH which was far more accessible.

Konami did release the shitty Rock Revolution last year, but by then it seemed like they were cashing in on the music game fad despite the existence of GF and Bemani

I don't think Konami will ever catch up either.

Unless they start making DS games with Bemani music and market right to the Weeaboos.

No way they will. GH and RB are huge brands now and both are also much better games than any Guitar Freaks/Drummania has been. Really, the only smart things they did with Rock Revolution was make it compatible with GH/RB instruments and make it cheaper than the competition, but that still didn't help at all.

The Problem I have with Guitar Hero though it is far superior to Konami's efforts. The Note charts ever since Neversoft and other such people took over never seemed right.

I know if want to push my skills to the limit I can pop in Guitar Hero metallica which...well is just guitar hero with more metallica songs than anything.

That's the other thing I dont like they don't devote their band only titles to a single band. So Yeah oversaturation...

    Kinda like how DDR got.

Konami are still have a nice lawsuit against Harmonix / MTV / Viacom against various patent rights. Activision (with Guitar Hero) have been giving those nice people at Konami a royalty. H/M/V have a lawsuit against Konami for alleged patent breech against the Rock Revolution controller but this just seems to be them clutching at straws.

EA or Activsion could probably buy Konami 6 times over at this point and with EA's stake in Ubi Soft...Snake N Sam sounds pretty good.

the most untrue statement in this entire thread.

GF had 3 buttons, easier note charts, and no whammy bar.

The guitar neck is FUCKING HUGE too. It is not even exaggerating, at least 3 inches thick. you don't feel like you're holding a guitar, you're holding a brick.

The note charts are bland and the interface for hammerons is not as obvious as GF, if there even were. I ended up strumming for every note.

Even if you were to put american rock music in GF, it wouldn't have taken off. The controller was missing features, and the overall presentation on Guitar Hero helped.

Guitar Hero is far less accessable game play wise, with whammy bars, star notes, and more than 3 buttons on anything higher than easy.

Guitar freaks doesn't require you to move your left hand at all. GF was basically DDR with only 3 buttons that you have to push a 4th button at the same time with.

some of guitar hero's more popular songs aren't even famous. In the first two guitar hero games, half the games tracks are by indie bands - most of which involve Harmonix employees.

GF/DM are superior in so many ways to GH/RB, but they're hard. They're fucking hard.

That's why The first Guitar Hero and 2nd and rock band are so good...Harmonix are muscians first game makers second.

Activsion hires teams that aren't musicians to work on these games but knowing that they bring in real musicians to help them.

    Konami...I don't think does either.

More like that's the most untrue statement in the thread..just about every band in GH 1&2 except for the bonus tracks is really famous. Certainly far from "half the games tracks are by indie bands".

I think what he meant was GH 1 and 2 was mostly cover songs by Indie bands

If we're talking about beatmania EU or even 5 key in general then sure.

    But IIDX? :fresh:

DJ Hero is too easy to be taken seriously. It's a fun little game, just nowhere near as good as beatmania IIDX.

I'd say Konami's devision Bemani does actually. All of the songs in the beatmania series are either remixes (very few) or completely original songs by bemani artists. I'm not sure about you, but flapping some paddle on a small guitar hardly requires a team of musicians to figure out.

It's all in the note charts.

Sure the note charts are more fun/accurate but the game mechanics are still rubbish. It's not even really a rhythm game.
