Well, I received my WonderMega earlier this year and powered it on and worked fine (I used a standard cheap step down such as this

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STEP-DOWN...velTickets_Accessories_RL&hash=item27bfa6e3da

I didn't have any games (accept the free one that comes with the console) so just turned it on sporadically until the games I ordered turned up.

When turning on the system it sometimes didn't power on - When this happened I tried another step down I had (similar to the above) and it worked for a couple of times then didn't want to know.

I've since bought a beefy Step Down Convertor from Maplins

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/300w-uk-to-usa-voltage-convertor-265288

There is no power what's so ever :concern:

I've got a massive stack of MD and MCD games to play and the bloody thing doesn't power on?

    Any help? :topsy_turvy:

Why not try using a UK power supply with similar specs as the original PSU?

That's what I'd be trying first. Step down / up boxes are a pain to lug around.
Is the PSU a 9.5V 1.5A DC centre positive?

Actually I just did a bit of reading myself. It seems that the PSUs for the WonderMega are a little bit prone to failure.
So fingers crossed a different PSU does the trick!
I'm looking forward to getting one of these one day too. Need more space first! :biggrin-new:

Yes I read that as well - I'm worried that something inside the unit will need attention :-(

It's only been used for 10 minutes since owning it to ensure it works and take some photo's.

    Mains adapter information:

    AC100V(50/60Hz)
    26VA
    9.5v
    1.5A

    Model: AA-S95

It's not DC Centre positive though

Ohhhhooo, centre negative then. It's no Mega Drive 2 then. Good to know thanks!
Fingers crossed the internals are as new as the day it was bought.
Those M1s sure do look impressive when powered up! :encouragement:

Tell me about it, I was longing to play bare knuckles on it on my my B&O but I guess I need to wait a bit longer to enjoy that experience :)

That doesn't seem right... The best picture I can find looks center positive.

And compare it with JVC X'eye, who definitely is.

Yeah I don't know where the heck in Australia you'd find a Multi-Mega power adapter.

Hard enough to find our version.

Well anything's possible. After all it was among if not the only case in console history where RGB output was added for Americans.

So it's easy to find the right power supply in terms of voltage etc but the connector is another story.

would a Mega Drive 2 power supply fit?

Mega Drive 2 adapters are centre positive, but only have 850mA, you'd want at least 1.5A.
That said, it might be OK for a quick test to see if the actual unit it alive.
I know that I've used a MD2 adapter on a Multi-Mega (which requires 1.3A) without any issues - they are also centre positive.
Only for short periods of course, nothing long term as I suppose it could draw too much from the adapter and damage it.
But in short, it will fit! :smile-new:

Edit: Out of curiosity, is the socket / plug physically the same on the WonderMega as the MD2?

I have no idea, I don't own a Mega Drive 2 LOL, I would try and buy a cheap one if I thought they fit though.

I just posted about this on sega 16. Certain brother p-touches use 9.5vdc 1.5 or 1.6 amps. I found this today as i was swapping two rooms around for my son.

I managed to partially sort through my retro consoles and found a bother ad-400 power supply at 9.5vdc 1.5amp. Had a look on ebay and an equivelant appears easy enough to get. Look for p-touch ad60. You do need to either swap the tip or change polarity ascthey are centre negative.

I had this noted down as I had some trouble finding a power socket for my Nomad a while back.
Ended up just taking a DC-in socket off a dead Mega Drive 2...
