Ill double check the connector but looks like the mega drive 2 jack looks ok.

    1. I'll buy a MD2 power adapter
    2. Test
    3. If all ok ill look out for P-Touch AD60 or Yahoo-Japan for a replacement

:D thanks guys for your help, ill report back when 1. and 2. Is completed

Too bad you don't have a Mega Drive 2 lying about. Well at least you'll have a MD2 power adapter!
Remember though, it might not work at all - I have no idea what juice the WonderMega needs to go.
I'd say it would be more than a petite Multi-Mega though - 850mA might not be enough to make it do anything.

Something like this should do much better and heck, you can use it for Mega Drive 1s and 2s afterward!
1.2A is much closer to 1.5A and will have a much higher chance of success! and VICTORy! (see the pun?)

It's a pitty they don't have one at 1.5A, I'll give that one a go.

Will running with this power adapter not damage the system as its supposed to run at 100Volts

An MD2 PSU will allow it to play cartridges but it won't work with CD games.

The AC voltage input doesn't matter as the DC adapter converts it down to low DC voltages.
As long as the output on the adapter matches the voltage requirements of the unit, all will be well.
Whether it is 100V-240V is irrelevant because it is all stepped down / converted in the adapter.
All the console wants is ~9.5V DC at 1.5A. As long as it gets that (or as close as possible) it will be happy! :congratulatory:
And without a clunky step down, your toes will be happy too - less chance of a stubbing... I speak from experience! :grief:

Thanks for the info ApolloBoy, so it will do something even with just a mere 850mA MD2 adapter. Good to know!
Actually I just checked my Multi-Mega adapter, it's 1.1A - 200mA short, just as short as that linked adapter above.

I've ordered the adapter - fingers crossed!

Isn't the Multi-Mega adapter supposed to be 1.3A?
I don't know if anyone has compared actual power draw between Multi-Mega and CDX, to find out why Sega rated them different.

Maybe they just used different parts for those adapters, so only difference is output itself, not consumption of those consoles. All i know - both work with NGCD adapter, with original dead Sega adapter cable connected to NGCD adapter ground and +10v. NGCD adapter output is 10v 2A, more than enough to run 2 CDX consoles at same time :)

And WonderMega will run on 10v just fine too, because it got internal voltage regulator, just like your normal Genesis/Megadrive.

9.5V seems awfully specific... If the Wondermega has internal Vreg's as Flash suggested, then any adaptor outputting between 7 and 12v should work, as long as it's providing enough current.

I don't have one, so I couldn't say for certain, but most consoles of that era use 5V logic internally.

Disclaimer: I wouldn't try this without opening it up, having a look, and being absolutely certain about the circuit.

    2A would underamp CDX.

Yep, my bad! My third party Multi-Mega socket fitting correctly charged centred adapter is 200mA short of the required 1.3A.
Just as the adapter on eBay was 200mA short at 1.3A instead of 1.5A for the WonderMega M1.
More of a proof of concept, it should show allow for the unit to show some signs of life unless it has major issues!
I'd never run my Multi-Mega for long on low amps. That said, anyone got a replacement laser? :smile-new:

No it won't, 2A is more than enough to power the CDX.

Any luck with those photos? Or have you already fixed it and are too busy enjoying the gaming power of WonderMega! :smile-new:

Sorry mate, were did the time go!!!

I opened the system but it looks like a nightmare to take apart.

I've been waiting to get a full day to work on this, I don't want to rush it and not be able to put the thing back together lol :)

    I'll keep you posted mate

Hello! Before disassembling it try a ps2 slim psu. I use them on both Wondermega M1, Wondermega M2 and also the X'Eye. They work.
