I know, the fuck is wrong with skepticism? We should march in step and believe everything we are told! If you're going to imply something is wrong with being skeptical I won't mind applying fascism as a metaphor. (no disrespect intended to drx, I'm just SICK of people telling me I'm in the wrong for being skeptical about everything. Including skepticism)
I don't think you are wrong for being skeptical. But I think some comments (not necessarily yours) were worded in such a way that it seemed like drx's reputation was being questioned or insulted. Someone mentioned Ben Heck earlier. But a 32X combined with a Genesis has already been done. Someone sandwiched it into a Model 2 unit.
Yeah, quite a few of the early posts went beyond general skepticism and really came off as mocking digs against drx's reputation and judgement, even if that's not what they were intended to be. Tone can be a hard thing to gauge on the internet, and sometimes additional consideration of how something might be read needs to be given.
A working neptune is such a rare item that it's pretty much impossible to believe anyone ever had a chance at getting a working one..... Unless some pictures/footage is posted....
It seemed to me that they were making fun of the guy who lost the Neptune, not drx. But even if they were, who cares? Friends tease each other all the time. I don't think drx is at home crying because people on an internet forum don't believe his contacts excuse for why he lost something so incredibly rare. This isn't kindergarten; No need to be so overly sensitive. Nobody is questioning drx or his reputation, just the bonehead who possibly lost one of the rarest pieces of video game hardware in existence due to something easily preventable.
To be honest I'm trusting enough to just believe drx. Given his reputation it never occured to me that he might as well be bullshitting, my comment was intended to be a joke and nothing more. You guys must admit that there's some humor involved by saying "Oh, I spotted this super sought-after piece of unreleased hardware but the owner's dog ate it before I got my hands on it", so yeah, nothing unexpected to see reactions such as mine. Still, it might be well possible that everything drx said is true. In a forum such as this I wouldn't expect people to be lying about this stuff anyway. Or maybe the seller was lying and just doesn't want to sell it anymore? I don't know the details though so I won't speculate any further.
You would be surprised what a removal/recycle place might get. I have gotten three prototype computers from a recycle place. I didn't even know they where prototypes until I opened them up. I sold two of them, the third one is too big and heavy to ship. :crying: =hugh
