World is screwed up? Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but what the hell the mods can always delete it. I watched this video on youtube the other week: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=s36ZYMjmXC0 If you can, try and watch the video through to the end (I find it shocking but I feel that it opens your eyes to the world). After watching it, I lost a lot of faith in humanity and without sounding too emo or getting into a blog style rant I just wanted to know what your guys opinions are on the matter? Come on people, restore my faith that the world isn't completely fucked up :110: P.S another video of similar sorts that any meat eater should watch is http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VIjanhKqVC4 .
AimBob: don´t worry, I mean the same. The world is screwed, if we as humans doesn´t learn to behave properly and a lot of other stuff in that direction. As long you don´t go into PETA extremism, since that is just as fuckedup as animal cruelty.
the world turns with money, chinese people have slightly different morals and values when it comes to animal killing especially when you take in to account that the most people working in that industry are street poor and really don't give a rats ass about an animal life as long as they can eat or make money. but besides that whole china thing, all countries are guilty, we all kill animals for various reasons (food, money, clothes,.. hell even for fun! like hunters and fishers from the west that don't need it to survive) even the most rich countries that have enough alternatives kill animals.. even animals we consider to be part of our family like mamals (japan/norway whales canada seals and what not) and we as westerners have a way of calling poor countries brutal towards animals but at the same time we keep them in small spaces and slaughter them in a in-'human'-way while somebody from lets say the indonesian jungle would be disgusted at that sight (as they held a party for the animal they are sacraficing) Do you really want to know why most westerners find these kind of movies so shocking? because they are used to getting meat at the supermarket! and are totally disconnected with where the meat comes from.. but demand askes for supply. I totally agree with stopping with hunting for fun, fur and having a human way of killing the animals we consume.. but hey when you consider that doing so will raise the prices of meat then most people are willing to be blind again! The world was already screwed.. but now you have internet/tv to see it with your own eyes.
port187: yes, and Denmark gave the thumps up for the Japanese could hunt whales. And I was in shock. When i heard that. And well, my defence is my honesty. Since I do know how a pigsty looks like, and the chickens and all that. So I am not blind, at all.
Never really took an interest in PETA but I just watched a video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=l9ijLulwUTY To some extent I can understand their actions. One of the main things criticised in the video was the comparison of animal slaughter houses to Nazi concentration camps, for which a lot of people think comparing a chicken’s life to that of a human being is wrong. I could only liken this to what would happen if aliens landed on Earth tomorrow. They would probably look upon us as primitive beasts and because we don't have their understanding, rounding us up for slaughter to eat would be perfectly justifiable. Simply because we feel superior shouldn't mean that we're always right and other forms of life can't have emotion. Also the people in the ALF mentioned in somewhat remind me of terrorists. I can't find the picture for the life of me but (and I think it was on this forum?) of a cartoon drawing. On the left side it showed a bunch of people with guns with the word 'Terrorist' above it, on the right was a mirror image but the word was 'Freedom Fighter'. Now I'm not saying terrorism is right but when people are pushed to the extreme they will look for the only alternative left which is violence. It may be a poor example and I'm certainly not condoning PETA or terrorism, merely that you should try to see things from their point of view. On a side note I’ve been a vegetarian now for about 2 years and I’m not trying to change anyone’s opinion by posting here, but I do think that you should open your eyes to the stuff that goes on.
PETA gas cats, and dogs as a sidejob. So I don´t see anything good about PETA. And what I understand, then killing animals with gas is the worst way of killing anything(humans included). And no wonder why, I am against any kind of animal cruelty. Heck, I would never ever let my cat die in a way like that. Even thinking about humanly euthenised animals (sp ?) makes me think twice. About some stuff, but anyway, I would never ever kill an animal just for fun, and neither would I accept other stuff, but I have double standards. Since I do enjoy meat.
We are born in a dog eats dog world, some of us are poor some are filty rich but most are poor.. these poor people don't think in a way of justice but survival, slaughter of an animal is a MUST in most countries for survival or the means for a minimal lifestyle.. there is no right and wrong, there are local morals and value's that's it. And the worst thing is WE are setting the example on what they COULD have. That alien story maybe sounds shocking but if we forget humans/mamals and other large animals for a second and take bugs for example.. would you consider a bug's life worth your attention? if yes goodluck, if no then why should the aliens? If the aliens kill us like we kill lets say the micro organisms in our mouth when we brush our teeth or the bugs that eat our vegatibles? a mustiko sucking your blood? then hell shit happens. On that double standard note: I have to plead guilty as I do eat meat as part of my human nature/culture and because I enjoy it, I also don't see a role for me to solve these kind of issue's as I am nobody, i have not got the funds or the power to influence this world... I leave that to the rich/famous/powerfull and the crazy to fight for my and other living things rights. On a side note, I don't like animal crualty, I would not just kill an animal just for fun (not even bugs except for muskitos) but I am aware of what I do and If I would need to kill an animal because I am hungry I would feel bad for it but I would kill and consume it if needed (even in a cultural aspect, I don't agree but who am I to judge)
I completely understand what you say and for poor people survival is absolutely necessary. It's only natural to want to survive and if killing an animal allows you to live then fine. I do however have a problem if they prolong the suffering of the animal for no reason other than simple convenience. As for eating meat, it'd be impossible for me to try and convert everyone but I will say that the alternatives to meat are coming on leaps and bounds. I think (or rather I would like to) that in years to come killing for your taste buds will no longer be a necessity.
One thing i was shocked at seeing was the production of foie gras (goose liver paté) They basically shove a tube down the throat of the goose open a valve and there stomach gets flooded with grain!! You can see the goose filling up. As the liver needs to be fattened, force feeding is the easiest way. I saw it on Gordon Ramseys F word. There is a more humane way which involves placing a foie gras farm along the route the geese fly and they stop off and over eat of their own accord.
Well, you could just be a Janist, a religion that does not permit the killing of anything, insects included. Of course, you'd have to walk around with a broom all day (to sweep the path free of bugs.) I agree with Port though, although many of us tend to think of animals in other terms, for pretty much everyone on Earth animals are a resource in one way or another. Wether that involves eating them, wearing thier skin, or using some other kind of animal product, milk, eggs, whatever. At one time we've all done it. Thing is, for the most part it's necessary. Still, we don't have to treat the animals we exploit as cruely as they are, there's no reason to have chickens locked into cages or cattle that never stands up.
China is fucked up because in reality it is still a third world country. it has built infrastructure to support a 1st world lifestyle however wages are soo low that the vast majority is still below the poverty line. countries are forcing China to toughen up on regulations but it won't happen as it will result in higher prices for the stuff we have china make and no one wants that. If you know anything about skinning is that the process they use has been going on for hundreds of years. Change will be little and slow.
Personally I don't think they are a necessity for most people in the developed world. Almost every animal based product has an alternative that is for the most part, just the same. We've got fun n' games?
The world is screwed because a few animals are having a hard time? Yeah right. We've been down this road time and time again... in fact that "Meat your Meet" video has been posted here before: http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5012 It had no affect on me then, and still has none now. I'm still going to eat meat.
We've got fun fur! LOL It's no news, actually it's kind of better than earlier days when that was happening everywhere. Europe and America were full of fur farms until the 60s.
Very trivialised I must say and no not just because of that. What gets to me is the fact that people for the most part don't give a shit about the world they live in. Saying "c'est la vie" to life doesn't make it all go away and I just wish people would open their eyes from time to time and speak up about the wrongs of the world. Maybe I'm thinking of it all like a puppy dog and butterfly world but it's nice to have hope in a better tomorrow.
"Trivialized" or not, I'm a realist. Call me cynical, but to quote a great movie, "the world ain't all sunshine and rainbows." I like hamburgers, and if a few animals had to suffer along the way of me getting a hamburger, then so be it. I don't give a damn what anyone says to me about it, now matter how many "animal cruelty" videos I see, and no matter how many pictures people could show me. At the end of the day I'll still be eating hamburgers whenever the hell I want to. And if some eco-terrorist cocksucking Peta whore has something to say about, I'll probably laugh in their face or just punch them in the face (depending on my mood). There is no possible way in this world that I could ever care less than I already do about this "issue." I've already said this, but the "animal rights" issue has gone round and round here before, and you know what? I'm sick and tired of dancing around issues because I might make someone feel bad, so instead I'm just gonna tell it how it is and if you can't handle that, then it's not my problem. - edit - BTW, this isn't a personal attack on you or any other vegetarians on this board, and I'm not calling you a cocksucking eco-terrorist. I'm just expressing my views on the matter.
Peta has no reguard for human life. They care more about animals than their own kind. From what I understand many PETA members are heavily involed in Planned Parenthood. So chew on that for a moment.
