The world is not just how it is. It is like that because people make it the way it is. So, being a realist you must admit that a change in attitude can result in a change in behavior and consequently lead to a certain result. It's hard to give up old habits but the decision to stop eating meat in most cases is the result of a learning process and a personal protest against the mass killing of animals. Eating meat in our society is no longer a necessity (except maybe for kids during growth stage) but you do it because it tastes good which means that you support killing animals just to fulfill a pleasure. What's wrong with critically discussing such attitudes?
LOL, even my first post in that thead was "We've been down this road before..." EDIT: Also, I'd say I was an animal loving guy, as I have some pet dogs and generally appreciate or play with them....etc.., but I still love meat. For those animals in the warehouses or wherever, its basically just "Sucks to be them" as far as I'm concerned.
I don't eat meat other than fish. Yeah, animal cruelty sucks, but that's not why I don't eat meat. I personally found it hypocritical to actively help hurt cats & dogs but eat cows. Just me. Alas, there are WAY more problems with the planet, and one currently on my mind right now is the fucking disaster known as China (apologies to any Chinese). They are dropping the ball. Japan already hated them before it was made known that loads of Chinese products have high levels of toxins in them (lead, and other polutants). They're recalling the shit out of loads of products. And not just baby toys and stuff. 80% of Eel Japanese eat come from China... and China sometimes uses 100x the acceptable amount of polutants. A true train wreck, and a slap in the cock to Japan after the new head hancho of China comes over, tells Japan that more trade w/ China is a good thing, but Japan must come to terms with and apologize for the attrocities of pre-WWII.
Of course I understand that, after all it'd be wrong for me to express my views and shoot down others for expressing theirs. I wouldn't want to cram ideas down your throat like some religions do but rather I'd like to give people some food for thought and let them come to a decision on their own. Also I wasn't just on about animals why the world is screwed up, it was just the video that got me thinking about life in general. I mean where is this world heading .
We will be are own downfall, are time will come and we will pay the ultimate price for us being here.Nothing last forever.
Ever seen a wild animal (Lion, Tiger, etc) kill it's prey? It's not pleasant, it's not cute, but it's nature, and while I disagree with cruelty of any kind, I accept that it does happen, and I'm too much of a pragmatic to try and change that.
there's one important difference between how a man kills and how a beast does it. If we so claim that we are not animals (which we are really) and we are of higher intellect, then we should be more nobel, even in our killings. The hypocricy of being a human should apply to the death of other beings as well. Let animals kill as they do. Additionally, humans are an expanding problem, thanks to doctors. This might sound cruel, but nature has its ways of limiting population, and we re dodging most of them. AIDS and cancer are counter-balancing things for now, and it's not pleasant.
I'm sure anyone that's ever owned a pet would say otherwise ;-) Oh and thanks for your input guys, interesting to see things from all sides.
Spot on but nature needs to catchup, and fast. Whatever comes after HIV/AIDS could/should be even more devastating..but conversely a world saviour? Too many humans....
It's in your nature to destroy yourselves. Judgement Day is inevitable! Anyone that wears Fur should watch this kind of video. China has a lot of problems indeed. I can't understand how someone with a heart and soul could conduct this kind of action. Skinning alive FFS! I don't have a problem with wearing fur as such, but there are ways and means to that end that don't cause this kind of horror.
I actually hate fur and expensive jewelry. Totally wasted money and a pity for the animals. Imitations rock when we're not talking about technology or safety.
Oh, well in that case I agree! The world is screwed up the a-hole as far as I'm concerned. Also, I just wanted to be clear that I don't agree with extreme forms of animal cruelty and think that the slaughter houses in those videos need to be hit with some fines, and if they don't shape up be shut down. However, living in rural Arkansas for 12 years now I've seen many, MANY animal operations (hogs, cattle, chickens... you name it) and none of them were nearly as bad as what was shown in those videos. Shots from videos like that are usually taken from some of the worst slaughter house operations in America. I know a lot of people who's lives depend on animal operations, and I know a few people who's lives were almost ruined because their operations were shut down without warning. Anyway, I was po'd yesterday when I made my reply, so I hope I didn't sound TOO hostile. I'm not really. Man I can go ALL day about the "meat is no longer a necessity" argument. According to the dietitians and physical health experts I've talked to, it is. But I'm pretty sure you know more than them right? I mean, they're only doctors. Also, I've already said I'm perfectly fine with animals dying to support my "pleasure" of eating meat. Critically discuss it all you want, because I've made my stance clear and I'm not about to budge.
Whole article about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarian_nutrition#Potential_nutrient_deficiencies . Of course there are potential nutrient deficiencies, but how many people can say they eat at least 5 fruit and veg a day on a 'normal' diet?
Pets could fall into the amusement category....unless you're an old lady with 5 cats who keeps them all because she thinks they all love her. (My Grandma) But seriously, I love my dogs a bunch but what good are they? They aren't working dogs, but here for the families amusement. If you think about it, a normal house would be boring without a pet or two.
:banghead: LIke not learning proper grammer!! ANd I am typing this intentionally if you can figure out what's wrong here lol. People die, get used to it. It's ok to cry. It's ok to do whatever it is you believe in because you say it is and that is a-ok! Animals die vicious deaths in the wild. The Chinese raise them for a simple purpose, just like America's Dairy Farmers have to do in order to keep up with supply and demand. But did you notice that the price of milk has gone up after USDA/FDA enacted tougher regulations on the treatments of animals? Sure, one or two companies might get a bit too greedy and break the law and make some cow's life miserable. Of course skinning an animal while it's still alive is cruel, but what can you do? It's China. If you don't know a political party member and don't have money you are fucked in that country. The same with any Asian country. You're either with the in-group, or out-group. So you can't expect change to happen fast and quick in most cases if you're a foreigner. Don't give up, just don't get high expectations, that's all.
If meat is so bad, why does it taste so nice? As long as the animal was kept in humane conditions e.g. free range ect I really don't have a problem with it. The only problem I have is when the animal is strung up and left to bleed to death (halal meat) or when its force fed till its liver burst (Foie gras).
