Those 'load times' were not caused by what you think most likely. I strongly suspect those long pauses are related to uploading new data/samples to the SPC (sound) system. The game has alot of voice samples that play and are high quality. The problem is the SNES was not designed with any fast method of transferring large amounts of data to the SPC's RAM. That also combined with the relatively small amount of RAM the SPC has means that you have to take time to load data. Most games do this when you won't notice or some only load the SPC with data once. Street Fighter Alpha 2 should have had either an option to disable the announcer voice samples (which would definitely cut down on the loading interruptions) or maybe used smaller lower quality samples. Aside from the load time issue, it's a pretty good port from what I remember. Oh and Wayne's World on SNES really is shit.
