"inspired by" and "ripped off" have a thin line separating the two..eg, Dante ripped off GoW, but GoW was inspired by DMC.
I agree. Forza, for example, was inspired by Gran Turismo but actually added new stuff / improved the formula. The ones i posted on the previous page, on the other hand... just wanted to cash in on the success of Gran Turismo.
Besides being rippedoff, inspired by or whatever, they just sucked so hard its a black page of gaming history  Add to that list just about any game released for the Jaguar..
MK didn't inspire those, they ripped it off. SF inspired MK but the list of differences is a lot. Tattoo Assassins was another MK Rip off.
I agree. MK didn't rip off of SF2, but was definitely inspired by SF - I mean you gotta remember, the original Street Fighter came out in the 80's and while not nearly as memorable as SF2, was the "grand daddy" of the genre, much like Castle Wolfenstein was the precursor to Doom. I consider MK to be more of an answer to SF2, whereas a lot of fighting games from say, Neo Geo (Fighter's History and some others) where more rip offs.
As I was probably the biggest virtua racing fan at the arcades, would even skip school to race.. when I saw checkered flag would be released on the jaguar I spent a fortune one a jaguar and named game.. come to think of it this game was my biggest ripoff ever
Anyone remember Golden Axe Warrior on Master System? That game ripped off Zelda SO HARD. And I remember there being a Zelda clone on Mega Drive too...
Gamehouse and Popcap has probably cloned loads and loads of other games, than just Zuma. I think any one, who is aware of the games Popcap has made, will find out that either them or some body else has cloned/ripped Lolo too. So if any one wants to make a topic about Popcap and other companies who has made NUMEROUS clones of older games. Then be my guest, cause Hamsterball is a clone of Marble Madness.
:banghead: Heretic and Hexen were sanctioned by id software. RotT was also awesome. Many of Doom's ripoffs/clones were fun to play. Exhumed, Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Dark Forces etc were all good fun. Besides first person gaming was just waiting for the technology to make it feasible ie no more of Ultima's choppiness.
in return mitchell corp ripped off capcom's strider (osman) and chiki chiki boys (charlie ninja) all 4 are great games it dose not matter really as long as their good games .
Popcap Games are indeed well known for "borrowing" ideas, but their crimes are nothing compared to those of Zynga...
Yeah, but Doom was really the game that started the FPS trend...there weren't that many of them around because of Wolf3D.
