The problem with targeting the GC as an exclusive platform for Resident Evil 4 was it was mismatched. The majority of GC owners were young kids. Resident Evil 4 would have been far better suited to the XBox or PS2 in terms of audience, so Capcom shot themselves in the foot there. The reason they picked the 'cube was that it was far easier to code for than the PS2 and the Xbox bombed in Japan. It wasn't because Nintendo influenced them with funding or anything like that. I could see Metal Gear Solid 4 getting a release on the XB360, but not for a couple of years after the PS3 release when interest in the game has faded and the next big game is being touted by Konami.
well as with the GC's RE4, MGS is no budget-title. It costs a fortune - if sales are mediocre, I m sure they ll release it on 360 regardless.
If it flops I'd expect Sony to offer some sweetener to keep it exclusive for a set time. Unless the game turns out to be shit.
Konami has had people recognize in the west the Xbox 360 is doing well, and that the PS3 isn't doing well anywhere. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do a port. More money to be made that way.
Just that? I mean they could've coded it for both GC and Xbox, since is just too weird that they didnt noticed that most GC owners in the planet were below the required age. More like otherwise: there could be a X360 port if the game's sales are above the predictions, but if the game flops then who's gonna pay to get it coded for the X360? Sony has payed some good money in the past to keep several titles PS-only, but as I just said to barc0de, if the game sales are over the top then konami or MS itself may fund the port to X360.
Still gotta say, I have never seen a kid with a Gameube, it's always a PS2. Of course, I live somewhere stupid, so....yeah. Just an observation.
well , low sales of MGS4 can only be a result of low PS3 sales , considering it's a sony console, the 360 offers a bigger userbase
Yeah I only know 2 other gamecube owners. 2 teenagers and my friend dylan who is now a wii owner and gave me his cube.
I have to support this too. Most "little kids" have a PS2, not a GameCube. The GameCube played to the Nintendo players mostly because ofcourse that's where you get the new Nintendo games like Zelda. Sadly most "kids" have a PS2 and are too busy playing Grand Theft Auto.
Exactly! That's why I never got it that Gamecube was a kiddie system. I know 0 kids playing Metroid, Mario, Zelda, etc. I know lots of kids with football and GTA. I don't even own GTA, and I'm 19!
If MGS4 is so good then its going to trigger a wave of PS3 sales since people will want to play the game. GTA3 did that: the PS2 launch hype was almost over so a lot of people werent buying the console. It wasnt until someone played GTA3 on some friend's PS2 that people actually wanted the console to play the game. We could say the same about Sonic and the Genesis... Indeed, N64 was more of a kiddie system cuz all pokemon games were on that console, and therefore every kid between 4 and 13 YO wanted a N64 to play pokemon stadium...
At 600 USD no single game is worth buying a console - and I bet parents will object, and even those who make money will find it hard to fork out enough money for what Sony is asking for their new console. this leads us back to the topic, and I conclude yet again that a PS3 purchase would be premature at this time - wait for enough price cuts.
The VF5 port was of the arcade, not the PS3. The PS3 version was a port of the arcade. MGS4 has been designed from the ground up for the PS3. It's not quite the same, and would prove tricky. Resident Evil 4 was started before much was known about the GC's demographic. I doubt the PS3 will still be $600 next year, definitely not by the time MGS4 gets released. Most kids got a PS2 after several price drops and the GC launches were rarer than the space shuttle.
By the time it will be $400, and theres gonna be other games like Killzone... But my point is that we cant determinate the possibilities of a X360 MGS4 port based only on the possibility the game may flop or sell like baggels, since if it is succesful then sony will try to do the impossible to keep the game as a PS3 exclusive, and if it flops then Konami will try to minimize the financial damage, and that includes no ports or improved versions (and MS has some debt too, so I doubt they'll be the ones paying for a port of a unsuccesful game). The only way I see MGS4 coming to the X360 is if the game has an average performance, selling just whats needed to not be considered a failure. In that case Konami may decide to make an extra buck by porting the game, or MS may want to snatch a former PS3 exclusive and then they'll pay any porting expenses. Like before the GC's launch? Nope, a lot of N64 were sold thanks to the pokemon games on it. The GB on the other hand managed to not only survive its new (and more advanced) adversaries like the NGP and the WS, but it killed them thanks to the waves of crazy kids trying to get a yellow pikachu GBC in toys r us.
Maybe, but I only remember a few spinoff pokemon games vs the game boy. I do remember stuff like Zelda being big sellers, but this is from what people had when I was a kid.
