Though the PSP is essentially dead in the west, it still has a pretty extensive list of games coming out in Japan: http://search.jp.playstation.com/se...pspgame&pspDownload=1&group=1&design=2&sort=1 Everything coming out looks like a generic JRPG and I can't read Japanese, but I think that discussing worthwhile imports would still make for an interesting topic. It seems that the PSP has been far more successful in Japan thanks to staples like Monster Hunter, but it makes me wonder if there may have been some good Japan-only exclusives on top of that. Care to discuss?
I've enjoyed the Densha de GO! ports released as Densha de GO! Pocket titles. Also worth mentioning is the JRPG Popolocrois which is a PS 1 port and remained untranslated until the PSP version (released worldwide). I'd also love to hear about more interesting exclusives. It seems that the only titles that still come out for the system are dating sims.
There are so many great import psp games that never made it to the west it would be hard for one person to list. My favorites are: Macross Ultimate Frontier Gundam Battle Universe the SD Gundam series Gundam Vs. Final Fantasy type 0 The Yakuza games Tiger and Bunny: On Air Jack Slotter Mania: Speed Racer (not really a game but fun for speed racer fans) so many to list...
Tales of Vs. is pretty fun. I found it by accident on eBay for $20 and figured why not. Part Smash Bros, part Budokai, part action RPG. I'm determined to learn as much of the in-game Japanese as possible (or at least the main/sub menu) for the sake of getting a better understanding. It's a shame that it didn't get an English release.
Intelligent Qube Final is cool if you like IQ. Ridge Racers 2 if you like RR, too. I don't think either wound up coming out in the states, not sure about Europe.
Ridge Racers 2 saw release in Europe and Australia, just not North America for some reason. It's essentially the same game as the original PSP Ridge Racer (the title screens on both games are almost indistinguishable, same music and everything), but with a slew of extra tracks from all the previous games in the series, most notably from the arcade-only Rave Racer. Back on topic: I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Criminal Girls
I'd recommend Earth Defense Forces 2 Portable ... I got this for $20 in a book store and it's endless fun. The game is in Japanese, but all you need to know is that aliens, giant ants/spiders/centipedes, kaiju, flying saucers and tripods are all attacking Earth, and you have to stop them using an array of (vastly overpowered) weapons. Buildings, vehicles and whatever can all be destroyed in the process, at no cost to the player's score. The framerate suffers when there's too much going on, and some of the enemies are very hard to take down (e.g. a city-sized mothership reminiscent of V or Independence Day).
I Love Criminal Girls! ^_~ I've played it back in the PSP days & i might pick up the Vita version soon too lol but anyways as for my huge list of imports i'll have to go for Umihara Katawase Portable Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan Kansei Rockman Dash: Hagane no Boukenshin aka (Megaman Legends 2) Bleach: Soul Carnival 1&2 (Best Anime licensed 2D action Jrpg!) Persona 2: Batsu aka Eternal Punishment
oh god, shit tons of psp imports are a must own. A few good ones already stated (like the macross, gundam battle *, Gundam Vs Gundam next). I'd also throw in .Hack/Link, taiko no tatsujin (either one), Tales of the World 2 & 3, Brandish, valkyria chronicles 3 & oh so many more (takes a while to think of them all). -edit- Seriously guys. Brandish Brandish Brandish. I don't get why more did not play this wonderful game by falcom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiPiYM0jvRw -edit 2- Oh god I just rememberd "GachiTora! Abarenbou Kyoushi in High School". Think GTO meets yakuza. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r72plxPaVCs
Anywho I recently got Final Fantasy Type 0 but am waiting for the fan translation to be finished before playing it (also need to wait for amazon to get it over here but whatever)
Picked up Grand Knights History recently: This -was- going to see a western release a few years back, but the idea ended up being shelved. Damn shame, it's presentation is solid, the art style really stands out, and it's turn-based fighting seems to have a decent amount of depth to it.
Onore no Shinzuru Michi o Yuke Amazing puzzle, you have to use shadows to resolve them. Totally recommended.
I'm surprise no one mention Valkyria Chronicles 3. Anyways if you like the Tales of series, the PSP got some excellent ports of Tales of games, like Tales of Rebirth andTales of Destiny 2 those games are like perfect ports if you play from the Memory Stick.
