    @Takeshi385

I just want to hear other gamers opinion though. When it come to children of my own, I personally don't want to hear or see children playing non scope 360 head shot on call of duty on xbox360 and shouting down the microphone headset calling everyone a faggot noob gamer or using insulting word and racist words which still can be heard online xboxlive community.

I think it better to play retro games instead of current console gaming because it not a social online thing and you don't want your children to hear a bad words or mixing with wrong person or strangers. When they get older and yes that fine. It like 10 year old sign up facebook right ?

I believed children would have more fun time playing retro games than modern games that we have today.
If 10 year old just got a PS3 or XBOX360 which will likely create a account and playing call of duty and mouthing off with friends. You see, parents are clueless what the effect are.

    It just my opinion.

That the whole point of reason me making this thread to begin with.

I agreed with you. I had a similar experience as you too. As it goes same as saying WWF old fans felt sorry to newer WWE fans that they missing out the best WWF Attitude in the lates 90's.

I would actually give him old games first so he can appreciate them better.

After playing call of dildos theres no way he will be able to beat even the lamest bosses from old games, there simply is no "press A to win the fucking game" option

I'd rather introduce them to other forms of media anyway, so they don't become like most people today who are only stuck on juvenile stuff like video games and super hero movies. Not that there's anything wrong with those as entertainment, but many don't seem to appreciate anything with more depth than The Avengers nowadays.

Just switch that shit off. I got fedup with stupid arse hole kids thinking they were great or morons who have a kinect and leave the mic on so all you hear while playing on line is their stupid talking and sound from their TV. Now with all online voice switched off I'm a very happy man. I don't want to talk to other players anyway while playing or have them tell me what to do.

I think you're going a bit over the top there mate. You just need to set rules. My kid can only play games on a weekend and only for a few hours at most. He knows the rules and is fine with that. Rules are important but most parents are dipshits who can't be bothered to enforce rules because it's too much work or so they think. Your kid will be fine with electronics and games. Just keep it to an acceptable limit.

As for your addiction to WOW, well...... Think yourself lucky you could get away. Never saw the appeal in that myself.

That will be son's first console.

It will be strictly monitored (ie time limit's).

I would also like (IF HE IS INTERESTED) for him to learn a musical instrument, I don't care which. I learned classical guitar as a boy and played Bass guitar in 2 bands and enjoyed it. I would still play if I hadn't *almost* lost the tip of my finger at my old job.

Also he will be doing self defence, muay thai or the like.

So yes he can play video games, but he will also be doing other things, social things.

Get an arcade machine, and give your kid a quid every time they are good to have a play on it! Expensive, unpractical parenting always works!

Joking aside, it's easy to accuse games as taking up to much of a kids time, but even before computer games there were things like Instruments and outdoor activities like skatebording that were accused of doing the same thing to kids, the truth is though that kids will get obsessed with something regardless of whether we approve of it or not, but it is also these interests that causes kids to make friends.

Back when I was in school Xbox live really started to kick off and suddenly I became friendly with people I never had spoken to before at school, all because so many people were playing Xbox online.

As for whether I would try to make my kid play retro games I'm still not sure I'd want to encourage anything that's considered "nerdy" because lets face it, kids are little bastards at school and you have to either be like everyone else or you get bullied.

As far as rules go, I wouldn't regulate how much they play games, but I would make sure that they are doing their homework and whatever. Also for rules about violent games I'm not too sure I mean I played my brothers Mortal Kombat and later on GTA on the PS1 (with out my parents knowledge) and I grew up with out trying kill anyone, and I also think that shielding children from real life subjects makes growing up a bit more daunting because that innocence has gotta break someday and the more you shield the harder it'll be. But also I know again that kids are little bastards and you don't wanna encourage that.
