Shadow the Hedgehog...You play as Shadow...and you have A GUN!?! Wow, this is on the level of making a game around GTA and Mario...On one hand, it looks interesting, but what the hell is the Japanese branch of Sega smoking?

Interesting. I wonder if this is the new "Game Cube Sonic" game that had been announced some time ago. And this one had better be good, the last couple Sonic Team games haven't met my expectations... with the exception of Feel that Magic. :D

Mario in DDR ... Sonic characters with guns...man.

Also jason this is probbaly a SOA call not SOJ so much...Sonic doesn't do anywhere near as well in Nippon as he does in NA and Europe. Sonic heroes was a North American-devved game.

I say give SOE much, much more say and influence. They've shown MUCH more marketing sense than than the rather sad SOA and have made Europe SEGA's strongest-selling market - and that in the territory SEGA has released the fewest games in. They've managed to get Sonic heroes massive, massive success, and even make games like Outrun 2 and HH:R on the charts when they sold piss poor in NA.

SOA should be made SOE's apprentice and SOE given the second-in-command status SOA has long blown.

It's always interesting how Sega has worked. Always apart and scattered, just like in the Saturn fiasco with Sonic Xtreme.

I think that this is quite neat, I never imagined SEGA (SoA or SoJ) to try something like this. Now if only Nintendo would follow suit and give Mario some attitude and a nice arsenal to work with.

Don't have any interest in sonic these days. A shame really, got Sonic adventure bundled with my DC and hated it therefor passed up SA2. Played Sonic Heroes t'other day through curiosity - that was a mistake. Found it disjointed having to swap characters and pulling off special moves in a sonic game.

If it's pure and simple it will be good, guns or no guns. if it's like other 3D sonic games it will be bad.

how can you say that when you said you passed up SA2?

    pointless.

The opinion was based upon playing Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes. It can't be that far removed from those.

Hmm, it could be interesting. I'm a big fan of the 2D Sonic games, although SA was quite fun. As mentioned, the fun in the Sonic games comes from the simplicity of the game play.

I think it would have been a cooler idea to give him a slingshot or crossbow.

The only good part of SA2 were the Sonic and Shadow stages. I hated all the other game modes.

Seems to have an awfull lot in common with Sonic Adventure 2, I just hope the 'gun' concept works... As long as they don't include a first person shooter mode. :/

So you're the one who's been sticking all this "Xtreme max attitude" into games where it's not wanted. Begone!

"More than 38 million units sold"... kind of puts things into perspective when the original Super Mario Brothers sold over 40 Million on it's own. Growing up I always kind of assumed that Mario and Sonic were kind of equal in the sales category, I guess not. Living in the UK kind of helps that perspective (possibly due to SOE as id republix said).

The other thing was that they showed Sonic Fighters a bunch of times - a game that got limited arcade release and was never released on a home console. What the hell?

Agreed, but only because I couldn't care less what they do to Shadow (fuck with Sonic or Mario in the same way and you're fucking with my childhood).

The 3D Sonics were playable but ultimately forgettable. Middle-of-the-road 3D platformers that should have been defining moments for the DC. Although I completed Sonic Adventure and made a decent way into no. 2, it was only because it was a new Sonic game. Stick a generic character in there and I'm sure I'd have been far less forgiving. It's impressive how much influence nostalgia can have :)
