would a ps2 debugging station be a lot easier in this case. that way, I can play imports for both systems on one unit with component abilities? Thanks

If all you're after is imports, why don't you just mod chip your PS2 system? The debugging system has a lot of restrictions on what it will and won't play, as I recall. Wouldn't be surprised if it was region locked.

Different models of ps2 debuggins stations vary in whether they play ps1 games of other regions, whether they force ntsc or not, etc (I'm pretty sure there is no problem with ps2 games on them, just ps1). Some do, some don't. All ps1 debugs play all games of all regions...

A debug PS2 is ideal for PS2 games from ANY region, but for PS1 games it will only output them in the native format specified on the PS2 rear label.

E.g a NTSC TEST station will only play PS1 games in NTSC. If you put a PAL PS1 game in it, it converts it to NTSC and then shoves it half way up your TV screen!

Have you tried the PSX S-video cable. I find that works fine although RGB scart gives better picture (ever so slightly).

When I tried to play PSX NTSC imports on my ancient PAL TV back in 1997, I had no inputs on my telly. I used a 3rd party NTSC-PAL converter. It plugs into the back of your PSX with a cable going into the aeriel socket of the TV (like the old NES systems!). Picture quality is shite compared to RGB but atleast I got full colour.

    of course it wont work.

PS1 can output only RGB component, not YPrPb component o_O

well, I also have a fliptop modded ps2. The problem is that I cannot get my CDDA coded games (PS1 Megaman X3 and Earthworm Jim 2 come to mind) to work propertly on the system. The music doesn't play and MMX3 doesnt load

Now, on my TV (a HDTV monitor) it can convert the PAL signal into a NTSC without patches or mods. I dont know if it is because of the components or the monitor itself. thanks
