    I can send you a video where you can modify your own saturn to play backups. It's a quick mod and it should supposedly work. let me know if you want the link.

    What is this mod? The only ways I know of to play backups on a saturn are a Chip or the swap chip. Is this some other method? if so I'm definitely interested.

    Sounds like elastic band on the lid switch and doing the swap trick.

    More a mod to allow you to destroy the motor learning to swap discs.

    Shame you're not in the states as I've got a few sitting around. Got plenty of modchips but they're picky on which model works in which type of Saturn.

    Model 1-

    There is the possibility it will shorten the lifespan of the saturn, but it's a risk you take should you choose to go through with this. You can always buy saturn parts if they break.

    It's a swap trick as everyone said before, that's not a mod. All you have to do is stick something in the lid release switch.

    You risk damaging your discs and maybe your hardware doing this - hence why people want modified Saturns still.

    That and 60hz. Swap trick doesn't switch mode. Not even a modchip by itself will.

    @ APE - If I were to cover all costs, would you be prepared to ship to the UK? If so, how much are you looking for?

    @ Retro - Have you checked to see if you have any kicking around?

    Cheers all

    Bad comparison. Overclocking a CPU can reduce the life of a single component that is easily replaced and on top of that I've not seen a single CPU die early from overclocking in years. Swapping discs on the Saturn will increase mechanical wear and tear multifold and is far more likely to actually cause permanent damage because you're screwing with the spindle while it spins. These days CPUs will clock themselves up/down just fine. Disc drives were never designed for swapping.

    I would but holy shit did international shipping rates go up, $77.95 for a large flat rate box. I've got a few Saturns listed in the marketplace at $150 but I'd almost have to give away a Saturn to make that shipping price become palatable.

    @ APE - that's cool, I wasn't aware shipping had become so expensive from the states, but it has been a while since i got anything from there. Thanks anyways.

    @ Bad Ad84 - PM sent.

    @bennett2009 - I've not found a modded one yet, no. I do have more stuff in storage, but I can't get there at the moment.

    @APE - $150 for a Saturn? That's really expensive!

    I saw a dreamcast mod that had a switch that paused the disc drive so you could swap discs safely.this was before self boot dreamcast games were invented... I wonder if something similar would be possible on the Saturn?

    Say £40 for the console, £20 for the modchip, call it £5-10 in parts for bios/switchless - there is £65-70 just in parts without labour.

    £30 to install it all - £100 -> $150~

    Sure, people who had them modded years ago and had their moneys worth could sell it for less - but to get one bought, modded then sold to you, that's going to be about the price IMO.
