    Hi,

i am looking for a loose / boxed Multi Game Doctor 2, as in one of these: http://www.robwebb.clara.co.uk/backup/bung/bungmgd2.html

Please also offer if you have a broken/defect unit.

If you have one for sale, i ll also be interested in any accessories you have for it.

anyone know a reasonable price tag for the bare unit and some of the most common adaptors?

    thanks
    tubo

Sorry but every time somebody brings up the MGD2 I have to rant

MGD2 is a highly difficult and tedious unit for beginners to use, in this day there is hardly a reason to own one unless you are a hardcore Bung enthusiast. If you are looking just to backup/"develop", get other units like what Virtual Alan's DPF. The MGD2 is a no-frills unit and it's a lot of work to just get anything loaded. Also please know that SFC adapters are LoROM only, you cannot play HiROM titles on a MGD2. GB and GG adapters also don't have battery backed SRAM for saving and many GB titles must be hacked for Bung's bankswitching IC.

Trust me, you do NOT want a broken MGD2 unless you just want to look at it. MGD2 use a very obscure low profile floppy drive interface before the current 25pin flat ribbon standard. They are just about impossible to find reasonably today, if you do happen to find a Chinese website with them, they cost over $100 used and those websites are practically impossible to order from anyways. I should also mention that just about all MGD2s in existance today have broken floppies so whether it appears to work or not, 95% of the time it will be broken. Besides the floppy, the MGD2 is not your standard discrete logic device which would be easy to fix, it is a embedded 6502 microcomputer, nearly every part is obscure even the LED matrixs. Good thing only the floppy breaks!

MGD2 base units cost anywhere between $40 and $200 depending on condition, completeness and color. Black is of course the most desireable and costs the most. Boxed MGD2 are pretty uncommon.

4M SRAM cards should cost around $40, 8M around $80. 16M DRAM cards are around $40, 32M are around $80.

The only common adapters are the SFC/MD adapters. Any SFC/MD DRAM or SRAM adapters can be had used for under $30 a piece. PCE and GB SRAM adapters cost between $75 and $150 depending on current demand, GG always around $20. If you're thinking about playing Neo Geo, get that thought out of your head :p The Neo Geo adapter is $150-200, requires about $400 of RAM cards and cannot play games larger than 16 megabytes, also games have to be hacked specifically for the unit and absolutely nobody knows how to do this, only Bung. There is no chance in hell anybody today with a Neo adapter can use it.

If your drive works then it is probably a replacement since most drives died off before 1995. The replacements are generally low-profile NEC drives with a standard 34pin interface rewired to match the proprietary Mitsubishi interface.

If functionality is all you're after, trade me your MGD2 setup for a Game Doctor SFIII. It will load HiROMs and can circumvent all copy protection by SRAM delimiting and has built in support for Gold Finger cheats and real time saving.
