WTB: Nintendo DS prototype

I'd like to buy one of the Nintendo DS prototypes that was displayed at last year's E3 if anyone has one available or know where to look for, and able to sell it. I'll pay $2000.00 US for a single unit, negotiable (will consider the asking price - I pay in cash through money order or bank wire transfer). This is the system before the redesigned version that's currently in mass production. Here are some pics of the specific unit I'm looking for:

I don't have any Nintendo hardware prototypes but I have a bunch from other companies. All I can say is good luck. Something like that if sold on the semi-open market would go for a ton of cash.

Prototypes From nintendo are sealed tight. And even if you find one, some guys got big troubles because of nintendo trying to get their things back.

if you can get one of those, than the snescd should be up for auction any day, along with those retail m2 systems, and hell, a jag2...lol....good luck in your search.....it will be quite impossible,.....unless you custom manufacture a case like the proto ones

well I'm not suprised if one of those nifty prototypes DO surface.. why? at the E3 2004 the Nintendo staff was walking all around with them. I also seen them unmaunted and putted in a black'fluffy'bag behind the press-counter.... So they werent on high security.. and there are always people who steal stuff so who knows.. :S

If one did show itself it would go for way more than $700.00. I'd say 3K to 5K would be a more likely starting point and even that guess might be too low. Unless one shows up though it's just a guessing game and nobody really knows what price it would fetch.

    Hey guys,

Well, I didn't know what to start with, but I really want one of these units pretty bad. I was considering on getting the new Sony Vaio TX series soon (coming out this month), but if one of these prototype DS units surfaces anytime soon, I'd be much interested in acquiring that first. I raised my initial offer of $700.00 US to $2,000.00 US (under negotiable terms).

    I fixed the pics.

    thanks,

    RyanGamerGoneCrazy,

I understand the significance of the difficulty in trying to obtain one of these units. I'm willing to pay the hefty price if one ever surfaces for sale. Unlike the 3DO M2 and the SNES CD, the DS was released to the public. The specs weren't changed, just the ergonomic design like you see today.

I saw a Dolphin Development Hardware surface not too long ago, so I have a little faith in seeing one of these DS's come up somewhere. Oh, and I'm acquiring a Nintendo GameCube Dolphin GangWriter - I could throw that in with a trade/cash deal for the DS if it surfaces and there is interest in a trade.

well, those Dev things where released...To Devs anyway, The DS proto wasn't.

I almost forgot how cool was the proto. But now that i can compare it, isn't the proto screen wider?

from the screent the top seems wider, but really good lukc on finding one, theyre a bitch to get, not only that but if you get one, dont make it too much public knowledge, nintendo goes after peoples asses when it come to their proto stuff.

Hey thanks Savin99. Sounds like good advice.

Cahaz, very true. I'm hoping something comes around, but if not, then I these pretty pictures to keep me drooling for now.

Buyatari, interesting. Thanks, I'd sure like to get my hands on one of those DS's. I was disappointed with the final design - I'm still enjoying my DS though, about as equally with my PSP since I've got Play Yan, but what I'd give for the prototype DS ... just one.

    thanks,

I don't think those demonstration units were even functional as handhelds, they were all bolted down tightly and it seemed like the "guts" were inside the display stand. You might be paying $2,000+ for a plastic shell with a touchscreen on it.

Personally I don`t think one will ever appear...................as people say..........Nintendo Dev stuff is almost like Hen`s teeth........but Proto stuff I have never ever never even :) seen......don`t know if anyone else here can vouch for ever seeing any outside of N`s offices anywhere.

Also that it was probably a plastic shell wiht the kit running from DEV PC`s underneath the display`s as I have seen this at shows before

I am sure HI_RICKY had one, and took pictures of it, and there was the pics floating around the net not long after it was shown, detailing the internals in very high res photo's. They have been sent out to people, but I don't know if they were recalled for the current version.

I prefer the old design, the new one looks shit.

Well, I'm definitely hoping something turns up, Virtual Alan. It feels like other stuff is just now recently surfacing up, like the pre-production 3DO M2 (grey M2) and the black final production M2 (black M2) which I at first thought were impossible to find because they were never released to the public as gaming consoles.

Hey Tachikomo. This pic would not have come from Hi_Ricky, would it?

It's from Planet GameCube, and it's also shown at another NDS site, and emulator site I think. Here's the link to where this pic came from: http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=5611

"Functionally, they are similar except that the cased emulator supports the touchscreen feature on the included DS prototype (still in its E3 form, as you can see)."

    thanks,

Well time to chime in. I am somewhat of a DS developer.

Anyways Yes 3rd party studios were sent the prototype unit. The problem this was ONLY if you were working on a launch title. I had my hands on one and wish I could have kept it but sadly the publisher demanded them all back which they more then likly sent back to NOA.

Sadly if I was smart I could have held on to a nitro TEG board (like the GBA TS2 board) because nintendo was less hounding for them returned (actualy had one floating around the office for a while till we finaly stoped being lazy and shipped it back).

Oh, Yeah. There is a GBA TS2 (prior to LCD being add) PCB floating around the office. :) I use to keep it in my desk but threw it in storage because I needed space for my crap. :p
