if i remember correctly, and sometimes i do* the proto ds was just a shell, like noted here earlier, the system had functioning screens, but the actual guts werent in the system, or so said gameinformer.....anyways, good luck finding one......it would be an amazing feat if you could get one...maybe if you move to kyoto, marry mymatoes daughter, and then sneek into the big N's late at night, armed only with a spoon and a butter knife...

    AGAIN LET ME CHIME IN.

The Proto unit shown was put into a small production run. Only studios releasing launch titles were able to get their hands on them but they were requested to be returned around launch.

They are real & 100% fully working modles.

I HELD ONE WITH MY BARE HANDS PEOPLE !!

Don't confuse the self contain unit with that of the early verions of the development kit (hence why the guts were in a box). It was not because it was an early unit, it was because it was a development unit. Current modle dev unit is exactly the same except with the system looking like current DS units & the cable being much shorter.

Yeah your probably right, meaning if you could get a DS proto that you could use it for a hell of alot more than games. I wan't one now.

Proto's function 1:1 with comercial units.

Yes there is DS flash cards that are exactly like the GBA counter parts. They are bit larger carts that can only be flashed with the official dev kit.

Comercial units can use the official flash carts also. Actualy when you buy test DS units from nintendo, they are just comercial DS units.
