Looking to buy a psp with the PSP2TV modification.

Sure most of you might think, hey dumbass buy the slim, it has tv-out, it has component TV out. However I'm looking to play with a ps2 controller. So if you got one and you're willing to sell PM me.

I'm willing to pay at least $300, providing it was installed properly and works.

    NTSC version only!

A friend of mine has one of these, but for PAL system. Apparently they are very fragile and go tit's up frequently. He installed as per instructions and it never worked - shame really, as like you I'd love to use the controller to play PSP titles. Good luck finding it!

Are you aware that the PSP Slim has better controls than the original? Just saying it's not likely worth it. Plus those things drop scanlines. This will look horrible on 2D graphics, and slightly odd in 3d. The PSP is 400x272, so it doesn't fit the 240/480 standard TV signal which is why they drop lines. You really are better off with the Slim. Unless you really need the PS2 controller cause you don't like the Slim controls either. Good luck either way.

I got the Slim for Dracula X cause it solved both the TV out and poor controls problem.

Mottzilla, the PSP is 480*272 but meh im being pedantic. But yeah i've seen one of these in action and they look terrible and also make the PSP look terrible.

Must be said it is quite a cumbersome plastic frame and because the console is as it were "strapped" to your PS2 controller, you suddenly realise your controller is bloody heavy lol

Not used a slim yet, so I assume from the comments the controls are better? More responsive, or just better feel?

I've been playing DXC on my slim tonight, the controls indeed are more responsive, smoother, and in general more cooperative than the original PSP. The difference is like night and day to me. I thought about the whole PSP2TV thing with the PS2 controller when I heard about DXC on PSP, but really now with my Slim I could care less. The slim makes the experience excellent even though it's on PSP and not PS2. With the LCD's zoom feature it might as well be a PS2 game.

Good to hear! I currently use the PSP Test to view titles on an LCD screen (thanks to a VGA out it's pretty good quality), however the expansion up to a 37" LCD screen does mean everything looks a little Playstation 1 rather than Playstation 2. What's the quality of the slim's video output really like?

Might be tempted to trade my older units for a slim or two as frankly I've always disliked the controls and found them painful to use after anything longer than 30mins.

have you been able to use spells in sotn?

    on the phat
d-pad is useless, and the analog nub feels like it will snap the way I play sotn...

Do you mean the spell motions like Up Down Down/Forward Forward+Attack? Yes those are pretty easy on the slim. If it helps, I can play King of Fighters 98' and X-Men Vs Street Fighter reasonably well on the slim. It's not quite as good as the PS2 controller, but it's such a drastic improvement over the original PSP.

I used to get Phat PSP controller fatigue too after very little time. On the slim I can go as long as I want. And I was playing DXC for hours last night on my LCD comfortably. The only issue is the cables that are connected can be a tad annoying. Mainly the AC adapter if you are busy charging. The main advantage to the PS2 controller is the ergonomic shape makes it rest better in your hands.

But anyway, I still highly recommend the Slim over the original. If you need homebrew, if you get a Slim with firmware 3.6 you can get that hacked for sure. I haven't checked lately but newer versions could probably be hacked too. And the Slim can even use the Media Engine now for emulators like SNESTyL. So it's better than the original PSP in every way!

Oh and I agree about the analog nub, it feels so flimsy. But with the new DPAD on the Slim you don't have any worrys.

Yes that's right, the Slim's TV out has large borders on all sides. But if you have a very big TV, or better yet your TV's zoom function fits it well it's not a problem. Even if my zoom sucked, on my 21" LCD the screen is a reasonable size.

The video you posted isn't good enough to see the dropped scanlines. Definitely look up one of the reviews for the product. And you should for the Slim's TV out too I guess. I just find for my personally and my opinion in general the Slim's TV-out is good enough that the PSP2TV isn't worth it.

Composite cables? No thanks. Heres a shot of what the PSP slim outputs to you tv. Like Mott said, you can use your tv's zoom function. I'd rather them keep the native res of the game anyway.

On my LCD, the resolution isn't changed. It's still 16:9. it has black bars at the top and bottom that are far more bearable than having black borders on all sides.

    Tiny screen is tiny.

PSP2tv is tempting just for the dual shock use alone.

    my sentiments exactly

interestingly enough, it was the video you posted that revitalized my interest in it again.

but I did pick up the slim yesterday...and my god, Ryu can do hadoukens!

this doesn't hinder my offer in the OP.

I had a PSP2TV on my PSP for a while, just for the TV output. If you hook it up to a TV, and sit back 10 feet or so, the scanline loss isn't that noticeable. You really only notice it on text (like scores, player names, etc), which can be hard to read sometimes. But once you are in a game (or watching a movie), you don't really notice that scan line are missing so much... Especially if you are really into the game.

It's a passable device... The only thing I didn't like about it was that it required the AC adapter to work (the PSP2TV itself needed power from the adapter). But of course if you are sitting by a TV, you probably have power, I just thought that was a little odd (and annoying if all your outlets are behind your TV).

There's a better solution to this IMHO. Why not just use remotejoy and connect a fat PSP to your monitor via USB?

The most recent version of remoteJoy allows joypad or keyboard input and full screen or native window sizes.

I'm using it to play through Final Fantasy VII: Crisis core as it is much easier to use a translation guide sitting at a desk with the screen in front of me.

RemoteJoy always makes my games freeze if I dont pause before major loading. Has that been fixed in the later versions?
