Have a new US kit w/ sidecar on the way, but it is missing the PSU. I need the larger PSU capable of 3A output.

The other alternative I was looking at was using a pc PSU in conjunction with:
    http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/zz-36-psu

My question about using this alternative is does the pc PSU need to have the exact specs as the dev PSU, or can I get a beefier pc PSU and then the xbox will regulate the input? Any recommendations for a PSU using this method?

The official dev kit PSU is preferred but I am open to suggestions, thx.

You need the dev psu to power on the sidecar.

Actually it will work. When I got mine, I didn't have a dev power supply either, so I used my retail one and it seemed fine. I later found a dev one and now use that. I don't know if it will damage the unit, but I never used the sidecar. Then again, I didn't use it very much until I got a dev psu.

Retail will not work with debug w/sidecar. if the sidecar is plugged into the board the retail power supply goes to red for overcurrent. the only way to use a retail on a dev w/sidecar is to unplug the sidecar.

No idea for a dev kit with sidecar, but I know the debug kit will work on a retail PSU, but it must be the correct value and isn't switchable. I'd like to see whether the dev PSU is any different from the Kiosk PSU (both slim, black cased PSU are they not) as I am certain my mate has one and he'd probably sell it if 240vac was of any use to you?

Anyone know whether the Kiosk version outputs enough power to use it with the sidecar?

Ah well, sorry about that DevL I will check to confirm however, but probably a no go. I just thought perhaps they'd have a slightly higher output considering the additional piece of hardware Drussian posted information about a while ago, some kind of controller box within the Kiosk itself. Perhaps, like the Kiosk for the original Xbox there was a separate PSU for that.

The two 3A dev PSU`s I have are both 200-240v input, these are both with PAL units. It would not be a huge leap of faith to imagine the NTSC units are only 100-110v or whatever the standard is. The kiosk controller box does have a small 5v power supply. Some early kiosks at games shows etc would probably have been using beta hardware, which used the 213w 3A PSU`s IIRC.

And that is what they call in the trade a 'definitive answer'. Boom, bang! Done!

On another note OE, any info. on the Kiosk PSU units? Were the early ones suitable to be used with the Sidecar? If so, I might jump on the one my mate has!

Fraid u need to look at the spec sticker on the PSU itself, as early ones 'may' be correct and later ones 'may' not be.

...Just look for 3 AMP, if it's 3 amp, rather than the 'usual' 1 AMP it will power a sidecar.

Thanks for that - I think I'll pop down to see my mate brandishing a retail supply as he only uses it to test retails anyway.

Im pretty sure it can. I remember people, when MS first was sending out replacement consoles near launch, getting XeDK power supplies heh
