Yeah it would be awesome with a bluray dc, with upgraded hw and 1080p rendering and all that other goodness that comes with better hardware.. Thanks everyone for clearing it up, at first I thought it was just a cool shell but I really hoped it was a homemade upgrade
That whole silver *metal?*/blue glowing Lucite motif screams pre-2004. But yeah, like everyone I'd still want it to exist. Sega, make your move!
There's a cheapo dvd player from china that looks almost exactly like that. Looks like they just added a few blue leds to in sections and a few decals
True but they have to go where the money is I guess. What annoys me the most is that Nintendo don't actually make that many games and the onesthey do actually make inhouse are mostly rehashed ideas from other games they've made yet nobody seems to care.
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Rise of Nightmares to name a few. Amusingly, almost everything Sega puts out now that's good is by a third-party as well (see Platinum and all those updates to their old franchises by outside sources). I'm with 7Force on this, today's Sega would be shit as a first party. No Yuji Naka, no Yukio Futatsugi (or anyone worth anything from Team Andromeda for that matter), no Tetsuya Mizuguchi, no Yu Suzuki (or is he still in a corner somewhere?), no Naoto Ohshima, and the list goes on and on... These days I'm happy if I think Sega is going to put out something remotely good. I mean, I'm excited about Sonic Lost Worlds, and I know it won't be half the game that SA/SA2 were.
Sonic 4 was actually by Dimps, which explains why it was so shitty, since practically every Dimps Sonic game is garbage. I think Yu Suzuki is still with Sega...maybe, but he hasn't done much recently. Not sure Yuji Naka still being at Sega would make a difference: after all, he was involved with Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog.
In his defense, during that time he went from making 1st party games to third party games. I know shortly after Sega abandoned ship he mentioned in an interview that it was much better making games for hardware he helped design. I suspect that's why a lot of Sega's output took a hit during that time and why so many abandoned Sega itself. There's just a huge drop-off from 1st party Sega to 3rd party Sega in general. Yuji Naka has done decent recently though. Ivy the Kiwi is supposed to be good, and Monster Manor on 3DS is pretty solid. Of course, these are smaller games, but Prope is a much smaller company than Sega.
I said this a few days ago in my Eurogamer Expo report. Only nobody bothered to read it. It seems I should have given it a stupid title like a teenager would, then I would have had ten times the views in a third of the time!
