I have StarCon and an E3 Playstation with StarCon in it. I was thinking about listing it on eBay to see how much it would get. But I thought I would try trading it first. If anyone has any unreleased ps1 games, please contact me. I will also some other E3 stuff soon too.

What do you mean by an E3 playstation?

Wait. You have a beta of StarCon for PS1?!

I wrote a MASSIVE article for Retro Gamer on the Star Control series, but only had old interviews and videos to go on with regards to StarCon. Not even Toys For Bob (original SC creators) saw it, or were even told about it until near the end.

I doubt my meagre writers salary could ever afford it if you put it on ebay, but I am dying to know the answers to a few brief questions:

    * Is it really as appaling a game as everyone makes out?

    * How complete is it? Quoted % amounts vary, but most of the resource materials on star-control.net point to it not being very far gone at all. Are missions actually playable? Describe how much is actually there. Can you play as all 3 factions?

    * What price were you thinking of?

    * Is anyone planning on dumping this sucker at some point? SC fans at http://sc2.sourceforge.net/ would love to know. Actually, they would probably give you the best price. Either them or Chad Darrenbacker at the main Star Control fansite.

oh yeah, and this is my second post on these lovely forums. Woohoo!

1.) I thought the game was really good. It had good graphics. It played much like Colony Wars.

2.) I don't remember the % complete it is. I don't know if you can play all three factions. (I never played the other Star Controls) I do know that the single player works very well. There is a two player splitscreen DOGFIGHT which is cool. Can I post pics here to tease you with?

3.) Haven't thought about a price, I really wanted to trade it for another unreleased game. Putting it on eBay was really to see how much money it would get.

4.) What do you mean dumping? When I was given this about 5 years ago I was asked never to leak copies out. Oh, BTW, at the same time I was given this I was offer a beta Resident Evil 2. I turned it down because RE2 was already out. Little did I know this would be a stupid mistake. Now I lost the contact information. :(

I bought it from someone in the UK. Which seemed odd because the E3 was held in US. Anyhow the game is not PAL either. He claimed that the system came from the E3 show and the lid was bolted down to deter theft of the CD. I have never been to E3 nor seen this before, but recently someone sold a Mr. Domino reviewers system and I was like "Holy Crap! That's just like this!". I never really attempted to open it, the screws are in there very tight and I was afraid to break it. There's no label on the bottom of the PlayStation either (in hindsight they may have been removed purposely). However, in the end I didn't care about the authenticity because I wanted it for StarCon which was never released to the public nor the 'underground scene'.

I don't think this guy worked at Accolade/EA because he also had a Resident Evil 2 beta (Capcom) and some other betas of games released. I only bought StarCon. I don't have his contact information anymore so asking me is futile. I sometimes wonder if this was taken from the E3 without permission.

I also had a contact for beta versions of Youngblood and Carmageddon 2 but that fell through. I'm trying to get ahold of someone who has a near final 360x and Baldur's Gate and that fell through.

Tease me all you like, I'd love some screenshots! :D
I'm a big SC fan, so if I can't play the unreleased black sheep of the family, I will gladly look at pics.

Goodluck with the trade. If you do decide to sell it, try and avoid eBay and go to:
    sc2.sourceforge.net
    http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/

Both sites have a lot of SC fans who would be eager to buy it. Plus, as well as getting a good price, you know it will goto a good home of a dedicated fan. Chad is the owner of the main classic gaming fan site, who somehow got hold of dev materials relating to it.
Advertising the auction on there would also be a good idea.

As for dumping... Ahh well, if you were told never to leak it, fair enough. Can't blame a guy for pushing the envelope, can you?

As for RE2, was it actually the fabled 1.5, or just a beta of 2? Apparently there is a beta of 2 that was leaked, which is just like the commercial version except with a few changes in it. It's not too exciting. 1.5 on the other hand has massive hype around it.

Nice find anyway! Very nice indeed.

Ok, let's try uploading some images. I can talk about them later. I'm running late for work.

EDITED: Files are too large. Will make them smaller after work. :(

I have not tried imageshack. I'll try this one more time. If it doesn't work I can try imageshack. I had to shrink them more than I wanted. Taken with my digital camera and using my TV with S-video.

    DCP_1822 is the title screen.
DCP_1823 is when you press start some creature is talking to you about krux or something or another. I usually skip it.
DCP_1824 when the action starts. You can sort of see where my missiles are going
DCP_1825 you can change you views. Here is a side view where I'm trying to shoot spacecraft (which I didn't catch in this screen shot)
DCP_1826 Hyper Melee (aka 2 player splitscreen dogfight).

No it didn't. Do you feel like scanning them and emailing them? Does my main screen look the same as yours (it's picture dcp_01822 above)?

I strategically placed my text on that screen shot. Can you tell me if your version states anything under my text on your screen? That may be proof if it's the same.

    Wow, neato. :)

Thanks for the screens, thats really cool.
Why the strategic placing of the text though? What mysteries have you obscured behind your logo?

As for a second copy with photocopied instructions, I'd love to read the text to the opening storyline/narrative if they included it in there. Do you feel like providing some scans?

So that no one can identify where the copy came from maybe...

Actually it's not all exciting. It just states the date of the release. I'm curious to see if Buyatari's version has a date and what it is.

Hey Buyatari, do you still have any playstation keyboard attachment accesories for sale?

You mean the prototype keyboard/mouse adapters?

Yes. I know you had some on ebay a few years ago. Forgot if they sold there (I don't remember if they did).

Also, didn't you buy the midnight blue limited edition playstation? I've been keeping light tabs on you for a few years. :p

I haven't determined that I wanted to sell it yet. I really wanted to trade it for another unreleased game.

HOWEVER, I'm looking for an RGB monitor and I just found out how expensive they are. So I might end up selling this sooner than later. I'll most likely sell my rare Psygnosis Promo CD and pin at the same time (separate auction). Has information on some unreleased Playstation games.

Mmm almost. I bought a few of them on eBay. 6 or 7. I never sold any. I may have traded one as part of a deal for unreleased ps1 games but I can't remember.

I was told (trusted source at Sony) that these were sent to schools using Lightspan titles. Did Lightspan directly market this hardware? That I can't be sure of, but I have a Lightspan PS1 also so maybe they did.

    Yeap that was me.

I have at last count 25 unreleased ps1 titles. I'd be open for trades if you came across one I didn't have.
