I bought this on ebay. I have a modded ps3 but I can't get it to load. I backed it up with Multiman and I get an error "80010017" when trying to load it. Could someone help me?

The EBOOT.BIN seems to be encrypted? I have no clue. I tried a DEX CFW but no avail.

If I can get this running, I will definitely upload this :D Thank you.

EDIT: Here is the EBOOT.BIN https://www.mediafire.com/?nclpa54k5g79vg5

It can't read the game. Did you back it up to ISO or game files?

Dump the disk directly, you should have better success.

    PM'd regarding the booting.

As for the EBOOT, as a general question are all EBOOT files signed or are some left unsigned until the final release?

Now this was with the unchanged Eboot file attached in the OP as well. Trying to resign it showed no results as all failed when resigning was attempted as it couldn't decrypt the eboot (and given it complained about invalid SELF format that makes sense).

Would there be anyone that has any knowledge on this to see if we can get it running?

I did and the same thing happens. The files themselves seem encrypted, I think. That or garbage data.

Still, if you have a full disk dump, that means it should work properly on DEX units which is the intended use. A good start and important for preservation :)

I wanted to dump it where its playable and share it with the community. Kinda sucks.

I mean, that is playable at that point. Not every prototype can be made to run on retail consoles. Not saying that this couldnt somehow, but there arent a whole lot of debug PS3 games going around.

My DEX unit wasn't able to run the game. It's quite bothersome as I'm trying all I can to get it up and running but to no success.

No, it's an actual DEX unit.
It's not on OFW so that could easily be making this be a problem but I dont think so.

It doesn't but I have my reasons.

But everything is setup as it should be for a DEX unit so why it won't boot is beyond me. I may reinstall OFW for it alone

Could the disc read as encrypted for certain files when I try to access it directly? Is there something I could run while I dump it?

You COULD use one of the tools put out by the ps3 modding community to make a rip but I'm not sure how likely it would be to make it working. My normal method is using imgburn and making a 1:1 copy and for me that usually works. If imgburn fails I use PowerISO for a copy as it's pretty reliable if the first conventional method fails. If PowerISO fails you CAN try some other tools out there.

On a side note I had some form of progression. Decided to *try* updating the data to a newer version of the game (and it worked, no surprise), and now instead of being tossed back to the XMB with an error 80010017 I instead get hung on a black screen. I'm going to be looking at the updated version and comparing it to the version you have to see what exactly it updated.

Also borman, does dvdisaster work for blurays or only dvds?

Minor edit - Yes it's totally possible it's encrypted as you try to rip without using a complete 1:1 copy. For instance you can rip to ISO and call it done, but that doesn't mean it works (it can but sometimes it can't). On the other hand if you make a byte for byte copy you can totally avoid the issues (maybe). It's a matter of how you do it.

Edit 2 - Update merely adds a different eboot into a separate folder with a reboot.self so its booting through that instead of the eboot in the debug build. Also dropping the files into hex editors shows a jumbled mess of everything (where as you'd normally see more things like SCE... ELF... game ID) but instead its just a mess. It might be worth ripping it on a PC with one of the tools.

If that's the case then there shouldn't be too much issue.

Try ripping it again and see if there's any difference.
