A friend of a friend has a sealed X360 Elite and its selling it to me for half retail price. It's A-OK, on warranty and everything.

Thing is, I was going to wait for the Slim+Natal, but this is a very nice offer to let go by.

Plus it's a jasper so there wont be any "sudden problems" like before, while on the other hand who knows if the Slim wont bring back the RRODs.

So, what should I do? take the cheap Elite? or wait for the Slim?

Wait for the slim then watch the prices drop on the old one.

I dont think so, the arcade one may cross the 200 barrier but the elite probably wont go further down than say $50 less.

Plus if by chance the Slim does have overheating problems (or any other problem) all old X360 will actually go up in price, like what happened with the fat PS3s with PS2 hardware.

My guess is that the Slim will actually go on to replace the arcade, since it will be cheaper to manufacture for sure.

I'd wait for the new model personally.

Wait for the slim. 360 units seem to be going on sale like crazy up here in canada. There was a short period where all arcades where being sold for $129 (can) and last week the source (formerly RadioShack) was clearing old stock of 60GB 360 (w/ hdmi ports) for $100. I would have grabbed one but I'm personally holding out on the slims.

But 60GB units use the falcon board right?

    Those will go bust eventually

I'd say buy the Elite. You were saying half retail, I'm guessing that's 150$ right? And I assume you will have a 120GB harddrive and all the other goodies. That's a good price. Who knows what the Slim will cost and what size Hard Drive will be with it.

My take is that the slim will cost the same, but I doubt that there will be a Slim+Natal bundle for the same money than an Elite, like I did before.

What scares me the most is buying a Slim at launch, get a RROD and then having to replace it until they solve the problem. It was enough having to wait 3 years for MS to solve the problems with the regular X360.

It's only a month till E3, and I'm sure M$ will announce the rebranded slim360/Natal combo. I also had concerns regarding RRoD from shoving the hardware in a smaller casing, but surely they'd have it sorted by now. Surely Microsoft won't cock-up the system this time round, will they?!

I must admit that I am really looking forward to the official Natal presentation showing what the system will actually do upon its launch.

We all thought the same after the first Xbox, but the problems with overheating were far worse than the licensing of Xbox components, which only affected MS.

The problem IMO is that MS works with many contractors at the same time for different aspects of the hardware, and with the X360 the guys in charge of the case had nothing to do with the ones working on the mainboard, so they didnt design the thermal flow to accommodate those components.

Plus, remember the pics from the Slim proto? check that fan, its obvious it needs a lot of cooling.

    go slim.

the new model will be leaps ahead in terms of manufacturing and design/power consumption.

The slim lacks a hard drive, right? How are they handling backward compatibility for that model? I'm not hating on it or anything, but I think it's worth considering if that's an important feature to you or not.

I dont know if a USB-HDD will be as fast as the X360s native interface.

Man, june has never been as far as it is now...

Thing is if you want NATAL, then it's probably cheaper waiting for the slim bundle if the rumour of it costing $200 separately is to be believed.

Going by the connectors on the leaked MoBo pics, the slim360 will have a HDD. I reckon it'll be internal and non-upgradeable. The use of USB memory sticks is just to replace those daft, expensive proprietary memory cards.

Also, the USB storage doesn't support original Xbox content in any way. Believe me, I've tried. As a test, disconnect your hard drive and try to install the backward compatibility update to a USB stick, or copy original Xbox saves there.

If there is an internal, non-upgradable hard drive, that's just another way Microsoft is begging for people to hack the equipment. Although an SSD with no moving parts to wear out might be an inspiring step in the right direction, but that's just my own speculation.

Assuming the Elite is a recent model, go for it. Natal is going to bomb and there are a lot of great games out there you would be missing out on if you waited for a slim model (it isn't even confirmed yet, anyway).

I'd wait to see what E3 has to throw out. Wasn't the slim 360 conformed in another thread by people saying developers can already get one?
