I think they might just go down the path of using standard SATA II drives for the slim, along the lines of the PS3.
Nothing lasts forever. I don't believe these SSDs last forever. Aren't most SSDs Flash based? If not that they are RAM based. Either way they all have draw backs. None last forever, but neither will the system anyway. The system is only as strong as its weakest part.
I dont think they'll use SSDs in a console, those are still way too expensive for subsidized equipment. In the future maybe, as a big buffer between a 1TB HDD and the console, when games are all DoD. Where did you hear that? AFAIK Natal is supposed to cost $99 or even less. At $200 it would be as expensive as a Wii or a X360 arcade, MS would throw away their entire userbase with such a decision. Its a 120GB lego bundle, wish it was the 250GB ODST one but ce la vÃe... I too been thinking that Natal could go bad, since the eyetoy had a similar concept but it didnt do too well. Plus I really want to play RDR, and now that DeadSpace2 will be console-only theres no choice.... ...that and even a measly 5850 costs as much as a retail Elite, and intel decided to phase out 1156 after one fucking year of launch so, in conclusion, fuck the PC sceneOH:
http://www.maxconsole.net/content.p...t-199-We-certainly-hope-not&commentid=1231226 Source is dubious at best, but I wouldn't put it past Microsoft.
I'll take that with a grain of salt, Sweden has some serious taxes on everything, plus who knows if those stores dont like to price things up a little. But lets say that Natal is $200 and that the bundle will be $299, that means a standalone Slim will cost $100? I dont think MS can price it so low, not without losing money on every unit like 4 years ago.
It might not cost MS $200 per NATAL unit, but remember, there is a massive install base for the 360, and they are still hurting over the old warranty costs.
Yes I know, but if MS really hopes to topple the Wii as the #1 console they cant price an accessory like a console, nobody would buy one (unless its really fucking awesome)
And how much do/did people pay for Rock Band sets, which have only work with "one game"? Are we really trying to make purchasing decisions based on a hardware changes that haven't even been confirmed yet? Jeeze, we might as well talk sports.
there is no reason to include an SSD. MS and Sony's "race" is in terms of space, not access speed. Even if you place, for example, an SSD in a PS3, assuming that it would function, you'd still be limited by your other components. Your system is as fast as its slowest component!
That's not the answer to what he asked. People tried that already. Performance is the same as regular HD's, at least on the PS3.
Natal won't be $200, they scaled down the spec to remove the built in processor. For this reason, I believe it will fail - the XBox has to do all the image processing and it causes a fairly large overhead to make it accurate enough to do the kind of stuff Microsoft wants it to do. I think it would have been better with their next hardware.
Try to explain someone who knows jack-shit about tech why they should pay for what looks like a weird webcam the same they do for a full set of "instruments" or a brand-new Wii. MS isnt dealing with hardcore gamers here. Holy shit, is it true? but why did they show the chip and everything in that presentation? If thats the case then they're screwed: X360 is giving all its got in the latest games, which means Natal games will be mini-games like wiisports, or run really fucking slow. In that situation I agree: Natal should be built-in the nextgen Xbox, like the wii did.
Ooh, excellent point. That means they need to justify their pricing with functionality alone, which makes the task even more difficult.
What presentation? Anyways yeah it's true (far as we know) and it was found out durring CES this year. The overhead is pretty bad imo. So I expect zero patching to be done to add support into an older game (with maybe a few exceptions).
Exactly, for most buyers it would be out of the question to pay such a sum for what they believe is just a webcam, and a big one too Nevermind, I checked and they didnt mention the chip, guess it got mixed up with an earlier one. About patching, I think it will actually be older games the ones getting compatibility, since those used less resources and could be made to run without noticeable slowdowns. It would be great for RTS though
Pretty much. I think the only games that probably use less resources are old launch titles that ran on only 1-2 cores and not all 3. The amount of work it would take to go back an re-optimize an old game just to patch this on would not be worth the work (unless MS is paying for it). Again I don't see it happening with exception to a few games (most likely from 1st/2nd party).
Rumor: Natal will launch in the US this October with a price tag of $149. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=396418 Oooouuchhhhhh!!!! Don't be ****ing retarded MS -edit- Wow even better "We were also told Microsoft’s camera definitely won’t be called Natal and that its proper title will be revealed at E3 next month. It will also be heavily targeted at causal players and families." Yay ****ing mini games. =|
Thats what I meant with old titles, after all even the original GOW caused a lot of X360s to burn. MS is being stupid lately: first they announced WinPhone7 which is impressive and could actually destroy the iPhone and give Android an ass kicking it wouldnt forget, but oh shit they go and launch those POS Kin phones that can't even compete with a Centro, and price them like a 3GS or a Droid. Then they take the Courier, with a UI that looks like something out of minority report and the only slate that looks better than the iPad, and they CANCEL IT! WHY? One step foward (Win7) two steps back, thats MS motto. Oh no they didn't! It was obvious really, anyways what about the name? I call "PhunCam" or some shit like that...
