Figures out how to play without the X-Band server and then add support for more games so people can once again start tying up phone lines!

Please note that there are sections of code completely missing. Also, I'd like to note that if you repost this, please post with my original message, since I'm taking the blame for this.
To the Xband Community... I've been pretty hard pressed to release these files into public domain. I wouldn't be doing this if I honestly didn't feel like maybe one day the right group of people getting ahold of these files could potentially bring justice to the original device. Attached in the following link is a zip file containing documentation of important memory addresses, images of debug units, a few game patches, debugging programs, and the golden Xband Genesis client source code, as well as the Xband Server source code. I made a few promises to never give this information out, and I'm normally not the type of person to break a promise. But as we all age, and the Xband slowly fades into history books, and farther away from current generations minds, I feel like this is potentially the best gift that can be bestowed on the community besides Xband 2 and Xband 3. Apologies to the awesome people at Catapult, the other members of The Xband Revival Team (Nevitski, Rush, Warp) for the betrayal. But if all of our hard work can in some way be brought to fruition for a miraculous revival of the original hardware... These are the building blocks. - Krazystyle

    Interesting!

I thought one could still use X-Band on a direct dial-up connection, like with some Saturn games.

Unfortunately not the case :( The original Xband utilized 3 Sparc servers, and an Oracle DB :( It was contacts a centralized server first, then forces a disconnect for a P2P modem connection afterwards. The most important part to note here is the transferring of patches in the protocol before the game starts

On the note of the patch data, is that all/mostly/somewhat accounted for?

I've heard some patch data was going around, but no specifics, and I'd question if any of the patch data was for regions other than the US... and I'd hope if the XBand is revived I could try Puyo Puyo on it.

according to the readme its possible to play without the servers
you just gotta set it to not wait for dial tone/response
and direct dial your friends number

i know the saturn modem just direct dials
no server needed can still play duke nukem to this very day

That's nice, I actually have a japanese xband, unfortunatelly since the server are long gone it was just for the fun of browsing the menus.

I have an Xband for the SNES so maybe we could try to find the direct dial and see if it works. PM me if you want to try :).

Yes, a direct dial (of sorts) is possible, but gameplay then wouldn't be, as the original game cartridge does not know how to take button presses from the Modem API.

The Saturn Netlink eliminates patching and servers because the games were built directly with Netlink Support.

Would it be possible to pre-patch the game, using a flashcart?

Don't you just need the X-Band's SRAM to contain the patch for the particular game you plan to play?

Wow pretty shitty of you to just release something like that tommy.

Wasnt yours to release anyhow and you had no real hand in the findings of most of that data anyway..... i myself had spent 2-3 years compiling and OBTAINING all of that source code from the original developers as well as neviksti's hard work that had been put into it along with his findings and warp's research as well.

While i am a little pissed i think the original developers will be more angry as you flat out admitted it here that you went against what i and the original catapult developers had told you. There condition of releasing the source code was that it was not WIDELY SPREAD around which you just did.

I myself am not against relasing it, but im not going to be held responsible for it or what the original catapult devs have to say about it. Im all for everyone having it IF it was ok by the original devs....

Just saying, if you end up getting your ass in the sling for this by the developers, none of us are going to help bail you out man. You hung yourself.
