XBMC already installed, but no original dash?

i think he is correct about it always defaulting to game as long as the HDD is locked with the correct key etc, BUT.....unless you already had the profile exploit for a game copied to the HDD you will be unable to do any sort of recovery.......no backups will load if the C: drive is messed up...but an original should work fine, assuming the console was originally soft modded, he could try running splinter cell, mech assult, or 007 agent under fire(most people used splinter cell as it was a very common and cheap game at the time).....see if the exploit profile is still installed, if it is you could perform the reovery on the xbox itself, no hot swapping required

It's pretty much a given anyone new to the Xbox should install ShadowC.

 

Bad_Ad84 should be able to sort it out for you, or it might just be cheaper to buy another console. You could maybe pick one up locally for £5-10 which would be cheaper than sending and getting it sorted out.

I'm not in London no. Yeah was thinking that it might be easier just to buy a new one. Will keep an eye out for one, no hurry.

 

You got a backup of the EEPROM and/or HDD key? Then maybe you could have someone build and mail you a new hard drive keyed to your console. Maybe even take the opportunity to upgrade to a bigger drive.
