So the charges are finally filed against our crew of retards from the Durango conspiracy. They basically made fake durango systems, sold them and also exploited xbox live. The damages claim? $200,000,000 USD in damages. http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/sep/30/four-hackers-charged-stealing-xbox-army-technology The four charged in the US were named as Nathan Leroux, 20, of Bowie, Maryland; Sanadodeh Nesheiwat, 28, of Washington, New Jersey; David Pokora, 22, of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; Austin Alcala, 18, of McCordsville, Indiana. The DoJ also said a man faces charges in Australia in connection with the same allegations. It did not name him in the announcement, but he was identified by Australian media earlier this year as Dylan Wheeler, 19, from Perth. Pokora and Nesheiwat each pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to commit computer fraud and copyright infringement. They face up to five years in prison when sentenced in January. Five years in FEDERAL prison, for cawaduty. Plus, they will be felons and unemployable.
Well they're so young. What a waste, would you really go that far and think you'd not get away with it if caught? How on earth did they get caught anyways? Didn't even bother to keep it to themselves? I must say it's rather badass though, they certainly managed to piss Microsoft off! Lol.
That's what mafiaboy did. Although he was very young when he fucked over the internet and didn't really coded anything himself, a young script kiddie not realizing the extend of what he was doing. Probably a similar story for most of those, except they're adults, and in the US... In a way I pity those guys, because a lot of us here always work on the gray zones, what they lack was judgment. A lot of people could probably have done what they did, but they got a job at kapersky and know they'd ruin their lives.
Yep. Was all over the internet in seconds too. They have wasted their lives very much, especially being 19 like DaE. :\
Morons, serves them right. As an aside, to ASSEMbler...you are aware that 'retarded' and 'retards' are considered by large swathes of English speakers as really rather offensive words, ones not to be used as insults in general conversation, ever. You're not a 12 year old CoD knob on XBL who doesn't know his arsehole from his elbow, are you? I thought you were better reasoned / informed than that tbh. Unbelievable.
Its more of a general use term in America these days as its interchangeable with idiot. The word "retard" Isn't held to the same regard as the dated and offensive term "mongoloid"(offensive slur for down syndrome). People In America who get offended by the word retard are usually viewed as though they are looking to be offended by something. I am sure it is entirely different across the pond, but I'm also sure Assembler didn't mean to offend anyone.
Sorry, but I disagree. I work at a US firm, surrounded every day by US folks. It is unacceptable in the US too, at least in polite, well-informed and educated America. (I just checked with the two people that fit those criteria hahahaha!) Now I'm the one being very rude, great... Edit - but hey, it's all good. We'll be a 'community' again soon if my maths is vaguely accurate...
It might just be a regional thing. When I do here someone called a retard I automatically substitute the word dumbass.
Oh well, live and learn, thanks! We do have quite a sensitive approach to this topic over here these days. Certainly 'retard' is as unacceptable as 'mongo', 'spastic', or the 'tongue pushing out the bottom lip' gesture with accompanying noise.
Retard is one of the words like calling someone gay or fag. I use it in public very discreetly if at all. Because there are those people that take offense. Around my friends thats a different story. South park did a great episode on the word fag. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_F_Word_(South_Park) I highly recommend watching this episode; its hilarious. That episode pretty much points out people being stupid for taking offense over words that are being used in different context.
What's more stupid though... using a word you know can cause great offence (even if you don't mean it in that specific sense), or using a word you don't know all the meanings of / where it actually derives from, or being offended by a word that is unpleasant in meaning however it is used? Seems the third option is being favoured by people here, whereas it really should be the first two. Don't use words you don't understand, it's pretty simple. Also 'retard' isn't one of those words that has been 'taken back' unlike some of the traditionally racist or homophobic words for example, which are still racist or homophobic save in limited circumstances.
