That's so confusing... So retail kits are developer kits, but you still need developer kits.

It feels like they meant: "While we want everyone to be able to make things for our platform, we currently have no means developed to allow for that to be done with retail kits. For now please purchase an dedicated development kit."

How confusing that can be ?

Anyway, people talking about that leading to piracy are just being idiots. ;)

And people denying are just forgetting about video game history or they don't know enough.
To avoiding using terms like idiot or stupid I would rather use misguided, oblivious but feel free to fit yourself on any of the previews.

Try to google for Graf_Chokolo, PS3 and linux.
The excuse to run linux on everything even a toaster it's just misleading.

People had a way to run unsigned code on the PS3 and it still got hacked.
    - "oh but they did that after OtherOS got removed"
    - No, the hacking process started way before 3.21 FW.

By the way, besides the humble game collection release by Kakarotto for the PS3 there's absolute no development besides piracy on the system.

Maybe for our friend Fate6 the world is populated with only kids because that's the reality for PS3/Xbox360/Wii and so on..

By the way, PS2 Tool systems are already in the hand of several people and still nothing got developed by end users - porting Pong doesn't count as development -. Maybe there are only collectors to buy those stuff.

Even if the Xbox One requires a different signature for Retail and DEV we saw those signatures being reversed with the PS3.
    - "oh but they used the same key for everything".
    - Yeah but we don't know what they screw up until it's out there.

But to be honest, I believe the nand dump/replace process is the way to go on the Xbox One since Tuxuser already found addresses for the SFBX and the GFCU.

It wasn't saying that you have to purchase a development kit, they provide you with a means to develop on one, but additional devkits will cost you. I'd love to apply, but I know I won't have the required track record that Microsoft wants/expects.

So even my "waterproof" code can reset loop the box? kinda weird MS isnt fixing the loop... or can you exit the reset loop?

Also: I think homebrew is cool, but beter protection if the community isnt providing cool and usefull homebrew. the Wii has many nice apps and had a browser before Nintendo did. I hope MS is giving a way for students or indys to cheaply make their game dreams true (like on the windows phone, you can sideload, just register an account and maybe pay a yearly fee)
For Linux I say, its awesome when posible, Awesome when legaly posible. but dude, just buy a thinclient or something, install a highend graphix board and do your heavy math then. Bitcoins doing on consoles is not really working. Fandangos you made some good point regarding homebrew, Linux and some homekiddies "want to be a dev" and just stealing/leaking current gen code(compiled or not)

Now I realy have to program my raspberry for a school project and maybe find some time thinking what to make for my x360, maybe a program to fix my 360 memory card ;)

The ability to run unsigned code is not necessarily even a prerequisite for piracy. There are no unsigned code hacks for the "super-slim" PS3 models, yet there is piracy, because you can install drive modchips that fake the Blu-Ray protection system.

That's because SONY does not enforce a very secure mechanism on the BD drive and it can no longer be fixed at this point.

An attack where the drive itself and chunks of known data extracted of certain discs are used to recover a sort of "counter key" data was devised by one of the ODD Emulation devices manufacturers. When that trick became public all other ODD makers immediately started to use it too.

Because there's so many different discs out, SONY don't have disc (S)ELF files whitelisted so 3.55 and lower encryption keys still work for disc contents.
Therefore, Homebrew is usable on emulated discs. lol

This is another case where a property of the encryption system is employed against itself. ;)

They said after 3.55 private keys were extracted it's over for Sony. Yet you can not install custom firmware on > 3.55 without downgrade, and on consoles manufactured after 2011 CFW can not be installed at all.

I think they do not care anymore. ODE price is pretty high, so it limits piracy.

Indeed, ODE devices are the new form of "dongle" piracy... lol

I am guessing that in order to have full access, there is authentication needed. I'm pretty sure you need to sign in, when you have it hooked up to the Xbox One Manager.
